2006 Dodge Charger - Click HERE for Original Thread

Well, this certainly will not be the first post here on a vehicle that is in no way comparable to the Murano.
But it seems a decent place to put general automotive posts for those of us who are car guys.

Just got back from my 50th HS reunion.
Rented a Dodge Charger.
They (Dollar rent a car) did not have one with the hemi.
So, I had to take the V6.

Of course it was a typical rental mule. No leather and missing the usual "convenience" packages.
No compass (essential IMO) and no ambient temp.

But guess what.
This is a very nice little car.
It actually scoots pretty well, turns well and stops well.
The transmission is a dream, popping off shifts faster than a human.
It has a pleasing raspy sound when you get on it.
I like the styling.
The audio system (base w/ XM radio) is as good if not better than the Bose system.

It comes with
250-HP 3.5L V6 engine with 5-spd AutoStick®
Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
4-wheel disc brakes with ABS & All-speed traction control
Power windows, locks, mirrors
Remote keyless illuminated entry
And it is RWD. So much more fun than FWD.
All for less than $23,000.

Nits - the Visors are spring loaded. Not a good idea. They fold down OK and they snap back up. But try and "tune" them..... impossible. You get it set and then the car strikes a bump and the Visor flips.....usually up all the way resulting in a blinding flash. Not good.

Button placement - while the various buttons and controls look good and seem to be integrated into the dash fairly well, it's a real pain to find, say the Button for the rear window defroster. Of course, familiarity will solve this.... I said it was a nit!

But just doing the basics, this car is solid, strong and quiet.
I would reco it just as it stands as good inexpensive transport with a sporting flair......but it has only whetted my appetite to try one with the 350 HP Hemi.
And as far as the 425 HP hemi........ ;)

Homer,
Interesting observations. I was in Pittsburg last week and was driven in a Charger. I do not like the interior, but this was one of the cheapest models companies buy. Also the quality was not there, I mean fit and finish. A lot of big uneven gaps. But……..
- I like the ride
- The steering was very good
- Car was quiet
- Overall ride impressions very good

I think Dodge did quite a good job with this car. It has MB E class suspension so no wonder it rides well. Overall not bad a car for the money.

I hope they divorced mitsubishi from this line, the crap they got from them was horrible.
Who makes the V6?
This would be the determining factor on whether or not I would even give it a glance with a 6 banger.
Kris
I do not know who makes the engine, but it is the same "high output" 3.5L, 250HP engine as found in other Dodge cars. I think the engine has been around a while. Certainly, it is not VQ!:D

Staying on topic, we were just out last night looking at Chargers & other models (near Pittsburgh) for my oldest. It reminded me how much I disdain car salespeople.

Cripes, just let us wander the lot for 5 minutes alone!

I can picture it now:
"What's it gonna take to get you to buy a car today!"
"Did you know the [FILL IN MODEL OF CAR YOU HAPPEN TO BE LOOKING AT] is the best selling car in the USA? Yeah, we can barely keep them in stock!"
"If you buy today, I will make my quota for the month and I will definitely make you an awesome deal"
"V8, naw you don't want that, the 6 gets the same performance but waay better mileage" (Usually, claimed when there are no V8s in stock or the markup on the V6 is higher, or they can't give the V6s away, or all of the above).
