Fuel Gauge - Click HERE for Original Thread

HI, I just bought Murano SL 2006 and drove for a month. Recently, I found out the fuel gauge has some weird moment. Normally after we refill the fuel tank, the gauge needle would move from E to F immediately. However, my car did not move like that. I see the needle move fine, but it did not reach F. It takes about couple minutes to reach F. At beginning, I thought I did not fill tank fully. Beside, the needle always move slightly while my driving.

Did someone find out that weird moment??

Please advise.

Did anyone has same sistuation??

Please share.

Hi there,

So your car have same issue like mine??

Is that all Murano has same issue??

I don't see it as an "issue". It's just the operating characteristic of the gauge.

I don't know if they all work that way, but would assume they do.

It's called "damping".

A gas gauge with little or no damping would be fast-acting but would fluctuate as the car cornered, braked, or traveled up and down hills. Anyone who has a boat with a small outboard motor with the remote six-gallon gas tank knows what I am talking about.

A guage that is heavily damped, like the fuel level gauge on your MO, is much slower to react to changes in fluid levels, but provides a more steady (and accurate) reading while underway.

So, your MO is act like mine, right??
Well, I just worry about if my car fuel gauge is not working properly. Then I need to go see my dealer to fix it.

Hi, there
So you think my fuel guage is working properly, right??
Well, I just worry about it and if it is not working properly, I need to see my dealer to fix it which it's still under warranty.

HI ALL,

I just filled my tank this morning. I figure out something that the fuel gauge did not reach F for sure shown on first picture. However, when I turn off engine after couple second shown on second picture, and I turn back on just electronic, it reach F. When I hit gas acceleration or braking, turning, it goes down show on third picture. I just do not know how Nissan design this function. It really makes me confuse after I fill the gas. Please click below link to my pictures that I made this morning.

Please advise.

I have a brand new MO (less than 300 miles) and the gas gauge never reaches F. I don't know what to do.

Hello,

I think you are same as my car. Well, I think it's normal. I went to my Nissan dealer two weeks ago. They checked fuel gauge circuit, and there was no problem except checking fuel tank.
Well, if you still are not feeling good about it, you can go to your dealer and let them check for you.
Actually, I went my dealer about 3 times already.

Hello,

Have you checked with your delaer yet?
I just fill my gas tank today, but it's still not reaching F. It takes a while to reach F.

:(

My Murano has been doing it for lat 3.4 years......I do not see it as a problem.

Like I explained in an earlier post on this thread, what you are experiencing is called "damping". The fuel guage is specifically designed to be slow-reacting, otherwise the needle would be moving whenever you accelerated, braked, cornered, etc.

It is not a design-flaw, it is actually an enhancement. I would not worry too much about it.
