CVT & Transmission - Click HERE for Original Thread

My 06 MO SL has been driven for a month. It's seem everything fine.
Here are few things I would like to share with all you have MO.

1. What is CVT ?? As I learn, the car goes smoothly without gear moment. Well, I found out when I am in traffic ( like stop often ),
I still can feel a bit gear moment under 20m/h. Is that normal??

2. How do we use parking brake correctly?
Here are my way. Hope it is right way.
1) stop car with foot brake.
2) apply parking brake ( about 4 notches )
3) move shift selector from D to P
4) release foot brake
5) turn off the car

3. One day I was parking my car and applied parking brake.
However, I did not pay attention. I stopped my car with foot brake and applying parking brake. All of sudden, I lost my mind. I released the foot brake and move shift selector from D to R. I was shock, and my car moved backward a bit. Oh oh... would it be hurt anything such as brake, transmission, or etc ??

4. I think it happened to some MO owner.
Every morning, when I reverse my car, I can hear squeak from rear brake. Sometime when I park at my work place for 3 or 4 hours, I also can hear that noise.

:) well, I may post more lately if I find out other thing.

Thanks!!

==============================================

Hi, Thanks for sharing!! ;)

I have another issue I would like to share.

You know every time I park ( shift is on P) my car, my right hand can feel a " click ".

Or, when I star engine, I hit foot brake and right hand can feel
" click " on the shift. Is that normal??

***Recently, I found out the fuel gauge has some weird moment. Normally after we refill the fuel tank, the gauge needle would move from E to F immediately. However, my car did not move like that. I see the needle move fine, but it did not reach F. It takes about few minutes to reach F. At beginning, I thought I did not fill tank fully. Beside, the needle always move slightly while my driving.

Did someone find out that weird moment??

Please advise.

1. What you are feeling under 20mph is the torque converter locking and unlocking.

2. Your procedure is fine, but I would push the pedal a lot more than 4 clicks. I push mine somewhere between 8 and 10 I believe. Just push until it gets harder to push. 4 clicks won't stop my Murano from rolling at all.

3. No you won't hurt anything by doing that, as long as you don't press the gas.

4. Known problem. Probably mild brake rust, which is worn away quickly when you hear the sound.

The parking brake procedure is flawed - if you park on steep hills you have no way of telling if it would hold or if you are still resting on that little pin (I guess it's a little pin in the Mo as well?) that holds the car when it's in P.

Here's a better way (IMHO) - 30% of my parking is on relatively steep hills (>15% incline) and I wouldn't want to rest almost 4000 pounds on P....

1. Stop car with foot brake
2. Engage Parking Brake
3. Shift to Neutral
4. Release Foot Break - car will move a tiny bit - that's normal. If it keeps moving repeat from Step 1 but push parking brake harder
5. Engage Foot Break, shift to P, done

1/ I learn it.
2/ I see we can do more clicks. I thought it is only 4 clicks.
3/ Actually, I did not touch the gas.
4/ I think it is brake rust.

Thanks for your sharing opinion!! ;)

I like geobernd's procedure for parking on a steep hill.

HI Tyler,

I agree with geobernd's procedure as well.

Tyler, Can I still use my way??

Your way won't hurt, but if you are parking on a hill, only 4 clicks means the car is being held by the transmission, not the parking brake.

Thanks for your suggestion!!

If I park on a hill, I would like to do more than 4 clicks.
