So yesterday I was driving home from Sacramento on 80 and this huge truck decided to cut right in front of me, then BAM! and huge rock hits my windshield and cracks it in two different spots. Must of been a rock with two sharp edges or something.
So I hurry up and call my dealer and ask How much a new windshield is, and he quotes me $1,150.00
WOW!!...forget it, too much....does anyone know any other companies that have quality glass...and also do I need a Window Kit or something or just the glass? |

window kit....I guess that is what as referred to as all the butyl rubber caulk they use.
Most insurance companies replace windshields for $100 deductable.
Check yours.
Some here have had insurance cover it for even less.
I had mine replaced for $100. They came out to my work place and had it done in 15 minutes.

MOST insurance companies won't consider that to be a claim, so it won't count against you, but SOME will. Make sure of what your policy is first.
You don't necessarily want to run the risk of having it count as a claim against you, especially with a company like Pemco that will drop you if you get more than 2 claims within a couple-year timespan. |

They were the cheapest and they come to your home or office (for another vehicle of mine, not the MO). I don't believe there's anything special about the MO's windshield, so this might be a good choice.
The online quote I just did on their site came out to 354.24. Not bad compared to 1150. |

| Let me clarify the price I just gave. The original price is $558.25, but they have a "Monster mark down month" going on - 36% off... which is $354.24. |

| Have your insurance cover the cost. It should be covered under your comprehensive policy and usually does not count against you. If you are in the Bay Area, call Payless Glass, (408) 294-8650. I know the owner and I can try to put in a good word for you so you would not have to pay the deductible.......if it is low that is....:) |

I agree with the above - check to find out whether your insurance company covers this (usually under the comprehensive).
I've heard stories about people taking down the license plate of trucks that fling up rocks (cracking windshields) and then tracking down the company to file a complaint. Most trucking companies have insurance against these types of incidents and I would not be surprised if the stories about them paying the claim are true. (Yeah I know this doesn't help you situation, but maybe if it ever happens again in the future). |

I'm one of those guys. A rock had fallen off a truck and cracked the windshield on my MG Midget. I caught up to the truck, got the name of the company and the license number. Found a payphone (no cell phones in '81), contacted the company and lodged a complaint. They covered all but the deductible listed on my policy, which I thought was fair.

I've had several done over the years- always paid only $100 deductible under my comprehensive insurance coverage. Never
increased my premiums.
And by the way New Jersey has some of the most barbaric insurance regs in the country. |
