Has anyone experienced a significant drop in fuel economy since the install of the Fuel Shields?

I have, and i think it has to do with the drag created by the fuel shields.

fdifolco-

It is very unlikely the fuel shield would have a noticeable impact of your fuel economy.

The air flow under you car is turbulent due to the engine/tranny, tires, front muffler, and suspension components. Introducing the fuel shield into this dirty air would have very little impact on the aerodynamics of the car.

You claim the impact has been "significant". What have you been experiencing?

I agree with Njjoe as I have had the shields for 6-months and my fuel economy has not changed at all from before installing my shields

Yep, I get 24.5 mpg at 75-80 mph--with shields.
Eric L.
No changes to fuel economy after fuel shield was installed, in my case.
Kris
I had them installed prior to my 5k miles road trip. I did not notice any fuel economy difference....

We could only wish for a drop in MPG for a reason for Nissan to develop a more stylish aerodynamic shield.

I guess this was my main objective. i'm from Canada and can'quote MPG. I remember getting <12.7L/100Km prior to the install of the shields, and now i can't get under 13.1L/100Km. I'm not sure if this is due to the fuel shields.

That's a 3% hit on your MPG. That's not entirely out of the realm of possibilities. I still think there are other contributing factors. Did you have any other work performed by the dealer when you were in to have the fuel shields installed?

IMHO there is not way the fuel schield was drop milleage by any appreciable amount.

I am getting 12L/100 Km for city driving before and after the installation of the shields.

12L/100Km is great, I've never been able to get that low. Toronto driving! Just curious, what grade of fuel are you using?

Shell Silver for most of the time, but when I tow my tent trailer I bump it up to Shell Gold as I find it defiantly helps when going over mountain ranges.

I used Shell and Esso mid grade in the past. I've recently been using exclusively Esso mid grade. Maybe i will try using shell for a while and see if it makes any difference.

:o No change in fuel consumption with me either after the installation of the snowplow aka fuel tank shield. FYI, I sent another letter to Nissan Canada asking for the aluminum type as the '06 and '07 have. Still waiting for their reply. Getting tired of people asking me "What is that hanging down under you car"

Maybe if we get some serious snow this year in Calgary, your friends won't have to ask what the shields are for, they will be able to see them at work.
