Hello,
I am installing a non-nissan brand hitch. Two dealers told me that it would void the warranty. They said you are required to put a bumper support on. Can anyone help me with this? |

It's nothing more than a scare tactic. They are hoping to scare you into letting them over-charge you to install an over-priced hitch.
A word-search of the Murano warranty yields only one hit on the word "hitch". I have attached the excerpt from the warranty.
My hat is off to your dealer. They are working hard to perpetuate the nation-wide reputation most Nissan dealers have earned. :28:

njjoe is correct, your dealer is an A$$hole. The factory nissan hitch simply bolts to the frame. The only additional parts required are the clips to hold the wiring in place. No bumper support, no additional transmissions coolers, or anything. Just bolt it on, run the wires, and you're good to go.
Many people on this forum have installed hitches themselves, both the nissan hitch as well as aftermarket hitches. No problems. It does NOT void the warrantee.
I would contact Nissan USA and complain about your dealer. Not that it will do anything, but might make you feel better. I know it makes me feel better when I complain about mine! :) |

I am adding one soon to carry a rear luggage rack on long trips and free up the cargo area. Definitely going with aftermarket and will install myself.

| I just installed the OEM hitch and it does just bolt on to the frame. But, you need to have the replacement bumper because it needs to have a couple notches cut out to accomodate the OEM hitch. At least for the 06. I presume the aftermarket hitches fit without having to replace the bumber. |

| I got a hidden hitch over the internet, bought the OEM wiring harness and got a hell of a deal in Alexander Nissan for the instalation of the hitch and wiring harness $70, they said I did not need the bumper part with the hidden hitch I got. No warranty issues whatsoever. |

Next time you visit your dealer for service you might want to ask them to point out in the warranty where they claim it states the installation of a non-oem hitch will void the warranty. If you show them that you caught them in a lie they may show you a little more respect when they deal with you. They'll know you won't stand for being BS'd.

The OEM hitch takes more work to install because of the notches required under the bumper. The OEM hitch is more hidden and looks better but it takes extra work and money. |
