Hello everyone...glad to be on the board. Bought an '04 SL 2wd a few months back and have been thrilled with the vehicle overall. It has 39k miles, and was clearly very well maintained. My only issue is a nagging feeling like there is something awry with the CVT. two symptoms: 1) When accellerating out of a turn, with wheels still turned, I get a mild "wobble" or out-of-balance sensation through the steering wheel, almost as if wheels were out of balance (can't be that at such slow speed tho). Are the diffs on these cars known to have problems? and 2) when accelerating from a dead stop, under moderate to full throttle, there is an initial subtle "clunk" which has appeared in the past few weeks. The clunk happens just as I hit the gas, and then all is normal. It is still mild, but seems like the kind of thing that will only get worse. took the car in for its first oil change/service since I bought and had the dealer look at the CVT...of course they reported back "no problems found". Any thoughts... thanks in advance!

The loose steering and clunk could be caused by the same thing. Check www.nissanhelp.com for the TSB on "steering rack bolt." If its not been performed on your car yet, print out the TSB and bring it to your dealership. You'll also get a free wheel alignment out of it.

what Eric said....

Plus, does it do it when she squats under accelleration from stop?

Could be something simple in the rear suspension. The clunk does sound like the loose rack though.

When accelerating out of turn you feel torque steer. Every Murano has it. I hate it but can live with it. The only true solution is to get RWD vehicle..

Thanks...will definitely check to see if the steering rack bolt TSB has been addressed. The shimmy coming out of turns isn't torque steer (I've had 2 Maximas..now theres a car with tq steer)...obviously hard to describe accutrately. The previous owner had more aggressive tires put on (Michelin 4x4 Synchrones)...could just be an issue with the semi-offroad tread?

Sorry,
i misread your post. If I recall correctly I had similar feeling when I briefly had Yokohama Geolandars installed. So the tires might be the culprit.

Eric,
you have the Yokos. Any comments?

So far, Yokos have been perfect for me.

I believe it would be tire spin. Very easy to do when accelerating from a stop with the wheels turned.

The other sound you hear makes me suggest that you not hammer the throttle from a dead stop. You will briefly spin the front tires (well one of them anyway), and cause the AWD to kick in. Using the AWD on dry pavement is a big no-no, especially with the perceived fragility of the transfer case.

C'mon.....are you kidding about he wheelspin? Anyone who can't distinguish wheelspin from a mechanical issue should have their license revoked. java script:smilie('')

You only have 3 posts on this site. We get ALL levels of owner intelligence here. How am I to know?

You're right...my bad, sorry for the smart-arse reply. Let me start over...My name is kevin and I have a Murano problem...

Seriously tho, I didn't see a TSB for a steering rack bolt problem for the '04. could it be listed under a separate description? The clunk comes from lower front..so definitely not a rear suspension issue.

You are right, no 04 TSB listed, but I'm pretty sure some non -03 MO's here have had the steering bolt issue too. Here's the 03 TSB. At the very least it will give you an idea of whether your problem is similar.
