I usually fill my fuel tank at our local Military base. The high octane of 92 for my black 2006 Murano cost $2.90 per gallon. The Chevron station down the street for a 92 octane is $3.00. The difference is 10 cents.
Let me see, if I fill my tank with 10 gallons of 92 octane at the Military base, the saving would be a $1.00. So is it worth it driving 11 miles to the military base to save $1.00?

| I would imagine that is a question that you would have to answer. |

| 11 + 11 = 22 miles return trip. Murano gets 20mpg (let's assume). So you would use 1 gallon@$3.00. No, it is not worth it. Unless you want to enjoy the scenery...:D |

Paniolo-
Assuming you fill the tank when it is bone-dry you will save $2.17 (21.7 gallons x $0.10 a gallon). However the 22 mile round trip will consume 1 gallon of gas (assuming you average 22 mpg) and cost $2.90. So, it will cost $2.90 to save $2.17. It is a losing proposition.:28:
However, if it is a gorgeous sunny day then it may just be worth the 73 cents. :29: :D

| I would imagine that any ride on your island would be worth it. |

The reason for my question is I see very long lines at our local Costco warehouse outlet where gas prices are low. I believe you save about 25 cent per gallon.
I guess it makes more sense to just spend that extra 25 cents per gallon than staying in line for a long time or traveling 10 miles to our nearest military base.
Thanks for your responses.

I've questioned this one recently myself but under a different premise.
My local Sam's Club (walmart's version of costco) has it's premium at ~ < $0.10 than other stations within 1/2 mile never any line, etc.
So being a skeptic I find myself wondering "am I getting a good deal on crappier gas?" Just for the record I've filled up there for the first time this week with no ill affects in either of our cars. |

My understanding is that you will not feel crappy gas right away. Unless it is really crappy. But this is completely different story. I am trying to use Chevron and QT because they have Techron as a cleaning agent in their fuel. It helps in a long run.
By the way - our calculation above were all wrong. From the cost point of view each mile we drive our Muranos costs us probably 40c. So drive 10 miles and you spent $4. What we forgot was to take into account the depreciation and maintenance cost. |
