I am looking to get either an 06 or 07 Murano SE AWD with touring package and satellite radio. I have an quote for 06 $100 over invoice is that good considering it is the end of the year. I am not sure if I should keep pricing 06 or go to 07. They also are going to charge me $500 extra to install the sirius radio. Do you think I should keep searching?

So really it's $600 over invoice. That's similar to what dealers in the SF Bay Area were offering me when I was shopping around. Doesn't hurt to ask for a quote on the '07 though. If the difference is small, it might be worth it (potentially better resale value). |

| I paid $400.00 under invoice. The dealerships really don't pay "invoice" for the cars, although they will insist they do. |

Well, they do, initially. But then there's the dealer holdback, which is money they get back from the manufacturer some time after the car is sold. If you paid $400 under invoice for a Murano, that means the dealer made about $150 on the car. He must have been pretty desperate to unload that particular car. |

| Well, it was in September of 06, so I'm sure they wanted to make room for the 2007s...either way, I got the car I wanted at a great price! |

I purchased my '06 in April and paid $500 under invoice. I made the mistake of adding XM later. ($500) so there is that. Dealer seemed to think it wouldn't be that costly to add XM after the fact - my bad for not checking first and in fact some dealerships were charging around $800.
Make sure you shop around (yes I'm sure you know this). I've found internet departments are the way to go if you know what you want. Also make sure they throw in tinted front windows for free. :) |

I posted this earlier to someone else... I bought my 06 Murano SL for $1297.00 under invoice through www.fightingchance.com
Sticker: 36,525, Inv 33,297, I paid 32,000. You never know which dealer is close to an incentive.
I negotiated the price and car over the phone and did not go to the dealer until I picked up the car. Check them out and I highly recommend their service!
I started the negotiating process in San Diego... I live in Philadelphia! 2 days later, I had 2 dealers lowering their price with each phone call until I said OK. |

You should shoot to pick up an 07 for 500 under invoice.
Call a bunch of dealers in your area (you can see their inventory through nissanusa.com) and tell them you're ready buy this car (vin#) and the most I will pay is $500 under invoice. I'd say 2 out of 5 will easily agree. |

| For what it's worth, I bought my '06 SE AWD Touring, NAV, XM and VDC way back in March for $35,700 which was about $700 below invoice and that was back when '06's were stil kinda rare. |

Sounds like lots of you guys got pretty good deals. That's GREAT! I think I got a decent deal on my brand new '06 FWD Sunset Red Murano SL yesterday. Sticker was $38,445. Invoice was $34,148. My company is a member of the Nissan VPP program, so I then got 2.87% off that price which made it $33,167.95. They gave me the same amount on my trade in that CarMax had quoted me... and then kicked in $500 more towards that to seal the deal. Opted for the 4% financing for 5 years.
Anyway, I've had it about 24 hours now and am really loving it!

Thats a good deal. I bought mine in April so about the same time as you. I noticed on Edmunds that some people were getting 700 under invoice but I decided I'll settle for 500 because I knew this was the only color/option Mu in California and didn't want to end up going out of state for it.....

Fantastic deal! About a grand off invoice...I'd say that's pretty much as good as it gets no?
I went for the 4% for 4 years. |

Closer to $1500 off invoice at around $1480 all told. Hadn't done the math until just now. Yeah, I'd say that was pretty good from what I've seen. Glad I looked at the employee discounts page on our intranet and noticed the Nissan VPP thing. :)

nah my math says its less than $1,000 off invoice....not counting the trade-in business
in fact if you think about it these 'prices paid' things are irrelevant unless we're comparing folks who bought them outright. the dealer can easily structure a trade-in deal to make it look like you got a great deal on the vehichle purchase price by making up for it by screwin folks on other parts of the total deal (like trade-in, financing, juicy add-ons like warranties etc)
fyi. my 500 below invoice was a no-trade-in deal, financed by nissan acceptance corp., didn;t buy any dealer options |

Powerglide,
I can see your rationale... but I also had no dealer options installed and no warrantee add on. Essentially, had I not gotten the extra $500 off, I would have run back to CarMax, grabbed my $10k check and then come back and written a $10k check to Nissan. By having the trade in done at Nissan for the same price plus $500, I saved myself the additional tax of 6.5% on the $500 as well. Needless to say, there was no screwing either way. The VPP is structured so everyone walks away happy and I paid $500 less than I would have had I not traded the F150 in. Add in the 4% financing on the balance and I still think of it as about $1500 off invoice.

I understad what you're saying Jeff. But allow me to continue to disagree :D
....this is the way I see it:
When i bought my Mu I had a Cadillac Deville I needed to trade. I went to all the dealerships (not just Nissan) and the best they would do was about 3000$. So instead of taking the $3K from the dealer I turned around and sold it to a co-worker for $7000.
So if I use your math wouldn't that make my deal about $4500 below invoice?
...I don't think it's very helpful to suggest to new shoppers that "if you know how to negotiate, Murano'a can be had for $4500 below invoice...."
Just isn't apples-to-apples in IMHO. |
|

| SliderJeff |
I completely agree with you. I didn't understand that that was what you were saying. The way my dealer put it, "I can't change the VPP price that you can get the car for... but what I CAN do is give you another $500 towards your trade-in that will effectively do the same thing as me taking $500 off the invoice." You are totally correct, though. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

| Wow, those prices are insane. I hope to be picking up an 06 SL AWD for $19k. Its a car from Enterprise rental, but still has full warranty and only 17k miles on it. |

Yikes... wow, I hope you know what you are in for as far as buying a rental, 2112. I've got a few buddies that used to work in the industry and by far they all said that no vehicles on earth take more punishment than rentals. Then again, for only $19k, perhaps it's worth the gamble.
BTW, are you a Rush fan, or does your name have a different significance?

My last vehicle was a rental and I bought it with 34k miles, ran for well over 100k with no problems at all.
Yes, Rush is my favorite band haha |
