Chirping accelerator? - Click HERE for Original Thread
Grim
Ok.. I've had my '06 MO since July and noticed this about a month after ownership (not sure if it's always been there or not).

I looked through the forums here and found nothing like what I'm hearing.

Anytime I press or depress the accelerator, I hear a high pitch chirp.

It doesn't matter if the car is in neutral or in gear, I hear this noise and it's quite annoying.

When I took it in to the dealer for my first maintenance check, I mentioned it to the tech who took my keys.

When they were done with the maintenance check, they said they found nothing wrong with the accelerator pedal. Apparently, he wasn't listening to me when I described the symptom.

I didn't feel like pushing it because I had already been there for an hour and a half for them to change the oil.

Could the throttle body be making this noise? Sounds kinda like a bird chirping.
Gonzo
Do you hear the noise if the engine is off?

It sounds like there is something on the pedal itself that needs lubrication. There aren't any cables to the throttle body like a traditional car, its all electrionic.

Get under there and press the pedal and see if you hear it with the car off.

It only happens when the engine is running. It's not the pedal. It's coming from the engine compartment.

A loose belt can cause that. Turn the steering wheel with engine running at idle and see if it will do it.

Just tested...

Regardless of steering wheel position, no chirp at idle and my foot off the accelerator.

After duplicating the problem several times, I tried to distinguish which conditions caused the chirp.

The only thing I noticed is that every time the RPMs pass the 1k mark, up or down, the chirp happens right on the 1k tick on the RPM gauge.

Throttle position perhaps?
Tyler_Canada
Do you have an aftermarket intake? They will make a whistle at a certain RPM, and if you pass that RPM quickly, it sounds like a chirp.
Grim
Nope. Bought her in July brand new. The only "non stock option" that has been installed is an "apple" sticker on the back glass. ;)

To put the sound into something that can be made audible for the readers here, it sounds like the word "Wheat".

When I press and release the pedal, and it goes above and below the 1k mark on the RPM guage, I hear "wheat, wheat".

Very very annoying.

Grim-

Have you considered the motor mounts? The front motor mount is electronically-controlled. It turns on and off at 950 RPMS. That may be the culprit. Some members have reported hearing a noise that is attributed to the mount.

Wow..I didn't realize they were electronically controlled. That's a great theory Njjoe. Thanks.

Do you suggest a way to test this theory? I guess I'd first have to locate the mounts and focus on that area while the wife revs the engine.

Thanks!
Grim
OK, this noise is certainly the motor mounts. I had the dealership check it out recently. Does anyone else get rather annoyed with this sound? I know it's the fluid moving back and forth through the valve. But, it's soooo annoying.

I don't even notice it.

Now that my Murano is starting to become an "old car" I just revert to what I used to do on all my old cars that had strange noises - turn up the radio!

In all seriousness, if you think the noise is louder than it should be, ask the dealership to show you the noise on another Murano so you can compare. If its not as loud, there might be an issue with your motor mount.
Grim
Yeah, I had them pull up a 2007 off the lot and it's the same noise..not quite as loud, but it's certainly there.
