The MO has never had a heated steering wheel. I doubt it ever will. Obviously it is not missed because I don't think anyone has ever brought it up before.

I agree its not missed or anything, but it'd be cool.. my friend's 04 maxima has it, and when its freezing out, you heat it up, and it soo nice.. :) |

My '04 Maxima had this as standard equipment. I thought I'd never miss it as it used to get so hot it almost burned my hands. I guess I'll see just if/how much I'll miss it when it's -40 this January.
Funny, my dad's old 528 had a heated steering wheel, but his M5 does not |

The wheels are the same too, as far as I can tell. I don't see why it is not at least an option, but that's the genius of marketing for you.
Just like the fact that you can't get a new pathfinder with heated seats unless you get the leather, or full airbag protection without a sunroof (in Canada anyway), which really does reduce the driver's headroom so that us 6+'ers can't fit. Heated or not, leather seats aren't very welcoming at -40. All SUV's should have full airbags (front, side, head) for all rows of seating, IMO, as standard equipment.
Their marketing folks missed the mark a bit with what you can and can not get up here on their vehicles.
For my (real) SUV, I am almost being forced into getting (gulp) a Ford unless I settle for something other than what I want. I only wish the climate wasn't so harsh out here, or I'd go back to a nice cruiser like the Maxima. |

If they do start making a heated steering wheel, I hope they have a way to regulate the heat better than the seat heaters.
My seat gets very hot even on the lowest setting. The other day when I was driving to work on a cold day, I swear I smelled pressed ham cooking. |

I agree with you elliotgb, my solution for a heated steering wheel is a good pair of lined leather gloves. Of course you could always get the heated ski gloves that operate on a small battery pack you wear in your ski jacket, this would be cheaper that getting a heated steering wheel.
My 2 cents on this :2: |

I lived in chicago for many many years until couple years ago and I dont understand the reason for heated steering wheel, first when is cold enough to wear gloves thats how you actually get in the car(with gloves)otherwise the steering wheel dont get as cold to bother you on barehands, now heated seats on leather thats fantastic the biggest part of your body is sitting in a large cold seat so there is a reason, but hands?you can actually sometimes steer with a single finger and few minutes and couple of turns and steering wheel will have comfortable temps back.
its like saying why there is no heated shift knob?
someone says almost burns they're hands but still love heated steering wheel? |
|
|
| ikalinin3 |
| well, heated shift knob is not the same, i mean you keep your hands on wheel more often then on the shift knob, unless you drive a manual vehicle... I still think it'd be nice.. Its really cold, let the wheel heat up.. 1 min.. shut it off, and its much more pleasant than a very cold one.. my 2 cents. and i think it's really cleaver.. i'd rather have a heated wheel than seats.. the heated seats make me nauseous. (spelling error, i know..) |

| I can't drive with gloves on, they make my hands too slippery. In fact I don't wear gloves at all except when I'm cleaning the snow off the outside of the vehicle. When the car has been sitting in -40 temps all day, coupled with poor circulation, my fingers get numb fast. |

When I first posted to this thread I mistakenly said there was no interest in a heated steering wheel for the MO. Obviously I was wrong. I was looking at it from my perspective and my 20F winters. I apologize to the likes of Tyler_Canada, manitoba murano and our other friends north of the border.
It is now obvious that a heated steering wheel would be a great addition to a cold weather option package. If the Maxima has one then it should not be too difficult for Nissan to adapt it to the MO.
Stay warm guys.

You live in Florida!! You shouldn't even be allowed to comment on this thread. :2: In Florida when the mercury drops to +30F it is called a deep freeze and the governor declares a state of emergency.

I've never had heated seats, but from what I hear, they are a great feature. As for a heated steering wheel, I never find the wheel *that* cold such that I cannot drive the car.
I echo Tyler's comments about gloves and a slippery wheel. The MO's leather steering wheel is very smooth, and is the primary reason I put the wheelskins perforated leather wrap on the wheel. In addition to insulating the hands a bit from the metal core of the steering wheel, it also gives fantastic grip, with or without gloves. |
