Rear Seat Cupholder - Click HERE for Original Thread
Beng
Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has tried to add the rear seat cupholder from an 06 to an 04. Not sure if we can just buy the cup holder part and slice up the center arm rest, or if we can just buy the center arm rest with the cup holder already in place.

Come to think of it, the Murano has got to be one of the most cup holder defficient vehicles on the market today. I just bought my wife a 06 Odyssey and there are 14 cupholders in the van!

The nissan engineers were too busy designing high-quality low-profile gas tank protection devices to spend any time thinking about pathetic little things like cup holders! :p

It's funny really, my King Cab (read not really enough room for more than 2 people) Frontier that we traded for the Mo had no less than 6 cupholders. Hell, our Z techincally has 4.

Might I suggest a floor unit available aftermarket? I've found quickly that the cupholders in that rear armrest are almost useless unless rear seat passengers are holding onto whatever's in them and totally inaccessible anyway if you have 3 people back there.

Yup, know what you mean about having to hold things in the center arm rest cup holder. My 03 Accord that I traded for the Murano had them. But they are good for the tera pack and sippy cups that my daughter drinks while sitting in the back on a booster chair so that she is that much further away from the stock cup holder on the floor :) Guess the engineer not only didn't sit in the back seat, he/she didn't have kids either. :)

I don't know about you, but, nobody will eat or drink on my MO, so I don't need a cupholders.

The irony is that the 03-04 models have the cupholder coming out of the back of the console between the front seats, and the newer ones in the armrests are supposed to be an improvement.

In either case, I *hate* the rear cupholders in my 03. My passengers all kick the rear console, and the cupholders pop out, and invariably get kicked or stepped on later on. I keep on telling them, watch out for the cupholder...and then I hear "watch out for the what? CRACK!"

My 97 Monte Carlo had... 1.

I do not miss that car :-D

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when the Nissan design team first presented their idea to locate rear seat cupholders on the floor. It is one of the stupidest ideas ever executed on a modern day car.

I know why.......they wanted to minimize the amount of spill and splash from the cups....:2:

But seriously, don't you think that placing the cupholders where they are has been one of the reasons why we can enjoy the "luggage compartment" below the center arm rest?

Could be. I would have preferred the rear cupholders actually pop out from the door panel, at an easier to reach level (and also out of reach of people who keep kicking my $@$#$#@ rear cupholder!)

Same issue here. Muy 4 year old is always poping them open without even knowing it.

I was thinking about puting some felt on them to make it harder to pop open.

i'd have to disagree.. they changed it for the 06... so they obviously put some thought into it! ;)

Sure they did.

The more people you carry, the less cupholders you have.

Big, BIG 2nd on that. Last week we put our Murano in for warranty and recalls (I've been slacking on the alt recall and two others popped up in the mean time). One of the things I wanted fixed under warranty was that the rear cup holder is stuck and will not open. Later in the week, the dealer called and spoke to my wife, they asked if we had children. When my wife responded that we have two boys (10 and 13 in case anyone wondered), the service guy said that they were the cause for the cupholder not working - it had "sand" in it. My wife was offended that they would blame that on our children, all you need to do is look at where it's located to know that it's going to get dirt in it.

For the record, we have a long dirt driveway so I'm not contesting that there could be dirt in the mechanism (and not sand). But I wasn't the Einstein who located the cupholder on the floor where it's going to get exposed to dirt and other debris.

Needless to say, they didn't fix it and it's still stuck closed (makes me wonder how they figured out the problem if it still can't be opened). I miss the "old days" where the dealers would do something quick and simple (like take an air hose and blow the dirt out of the cupholder track) to make for a happy and satisfied customer.

I'll end up doing this myself, but I'm still bothered with how the dealer made it out to be the fault of our boys when they had nothing to do with deciding where to place the cupholders

OK, enough grumbling.....

Even after replaement under warranty, mine will open 'autmatically' on road bumps.

I think I'll put some sand & dirt in to fix it :D

Ya know... not to be a total contrarian, but I had an 03, recently replaced with an 06 and I miss the rear floor cupholders.

I never had folks in the back use them, but me, by myself used to use them all the time.

You've had one drink in the front cup holder, and now later in the day you end up with another. You don't want the first anymore and there is nowhere to throw it away. You can comfortably place two waste cups in the back while you're driving. Its really in the perfect position.

The space is still there for the floor cupholder... I want mine back. :p

Here's a laugh. I am in Real estate so ther are always people and kids in and out of my back seat and the cupholder on my 03 was in perfect condition when a traded for an 06. The very first time a kid was in the back of the 06 she handed me the plastic clip from one of the cup holders.

So much for product advancment

Rear arm rest does not adjust to level if you have seats up right it slopes down .

Also the new on is not removable for cleaning which I think it should be.
