2005 SL with CVT Transmission;
At approximately 40 to 45 mph there is a high pitched humm coming from engine compartment or?
not sure if trans, driveline or??
Very annoying.
Has anyone experienced this? Repaired?
Otherwise, a perfect vehicle. |

I slowed down to 45 once.
I heard no hum. :D
No, I have no CVT noise at all of any kind.
What makes you so sure that it is the CVT?
Have you tried slipping the transmission into neutral while it is humming?

Check your tires.
I had mine rotated last week, after realizing I had skipped a rotation. I'm running Mich CTs and have a touch of the old "saw edge" effect on the shoulders of the tires on the rear (that were on the front). From skipping a rotation.
Anyhoo, when I hit 50, the harmonics of the vibration of those little peaks hitting the pavement are just right to get a "high-pitched hum" that stays there until I drop below 50 or get above 70.
Sounds like it's coming from the front, but it's really coming from the rear.
Feel the edge of the tread of your tires. If you're getting the same effect, it will go away after a while as the tires wear. |

Agree with suggestions above - it could be your tires.
If you do feel the vibration is coming from the engine, and is engine-speed based, then try shifting into Ds to see if different revs changes the noise. If the noise is still there, then you know its probably not the engine or CVT. |

Did anyone have this issue and have it rectified. Don Allison?
I am currently getting a humming noise from what appears to be the front end, engine compartment or front tires. I can't exactly pinpoint it. It only occurrs when I am over 30 MPH. It is more distinct if I am not accelerating but rather am cruising since the noise is less audible over the rev of the engine as I apply the gas. At speeds below 30 MPH it cannot be detected. |

Calimar75-
Try a couple of things to isolate the source of the noise.
-Next time you hear the noise put the tranny in neutral and note any changes in tone/volume.
-While keeping your foot on the gas ride the brakes lightly and note any changes in sound.
Did the noise suddenly start? If so, did you recently rotate your tires?
