Search continues for missing CNET editor - Click HERE for Original Thread

Some years ago I did some work for CNET Networks, the website that reviews everything electronic. Some sad news here regarding a recently missing senior editor, James Kim, and his family - James Kim is well known in the geek community for being the host of CNET's audio player reviews, so the story has spread on the net rather quickly - I'd thought I'd post it here as well.

I know its been a week, but I hope they find James and his family (safe and sound) soon.

3 Members of Missing Family Found Alive
By JEFF BARNARD (Associated Press Writer)

GRANTS PASS, Ore. - Three members of a San Francisco family missing for more than a week were found alive Monday along a snowy, treacherous roadway in southwestern Oregon, police said. A search continued for the father.

Investigators said a helicopter spotted 30-year-old Kati Kim waving an umbrella about 1:45 p.m. PST. Her daughters Penelope, 4, and Sabine, 7 months, were with her. They were airlifted to Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass.

"Mom arrived in an ambulance smiling and waving," Linda Rankin, vice president for patient care at the hospital, told The Associated Press. She said all three were in good condition, and would spend the night at the hospital.

Rescuers continued to look for Kati Kim's husband, 35-year-old James Kim. He left on foot two days ago to seek help, police said. Searchers followed the father's footprints into the snow until it became too dark, and planned to use helicopters with thermal imaging technology Tuesday.

DAVID R. ANDERSON - The Oregonian.com

Their Saab station wagon got stuck in snow on a side road Nov. 25 about 30 miles west of Grants Pass as the vacationing family tried to find a way from Interstate 5 to Gold Beach. The family kept warm during freezing nights by running the car engine. When the gas tank went dry, they burned the car's tires. Searchers said the family had little food and the mother nursed her daughters.

"They're in remarkable shape for being nine days in the wilderness," said Josephine County Undersheriff Brian Anderson.

The discovery narrowed the search for James Kim, who left for help Saturday and faces his third night alone in below-freezing temperatures in a little traveled 3,500-foot mountain pass of the Siskiyou National Forest.

There was no sign of James Kim except for a set of footprints heading uphill toward Bear Camp Road, the main road through the area, and down a steep embankment toward Big Windy Creek.

Oregon State Police Lt. Doug Ladd said there was "a very reasonable chance" that Kim is alive and that the family said he had some outdoor experience.

I just heard the sad news. There are many armchair critics who would say he should have stayed with the car, but if you've been trapped for a week with no signs of rescue, you'd probably go off to look for help to save your family too. I don't care what actions got them stuck, or whether or not they should have been on that road to begin with. Whats done is done. He's a hero in my book.

Makes me think to check my car for emergency supplies.

Slightly off thread, I saw on TV a Guy that left the car running in the garage door down (like Grippee and I did) and it killed him from CO infiltration into the house.

So is his wife. That is one smart and resourceful woman.
