Just got back from AutoZone. A new wax from Meguiar's caught my eye - NXT Generation® Tech Wax™ - see the pic. It seems that more and more traditional companies are going towards a polymer-based waxes.
Anybody out there used it? Any experience? |

I've used the NXT paste wax with fantastic results...I would assume the liquid makes the process a little easier.
check my gallery for pictures from "wash and wax" |

| I currently use that wax. Been using it since March of this year. Very good WET look, very SMOOTH, and easy application. No complaints other than wishing it lasted longer. Probably lasts only a month and a half, less than that if it rains more than usual. |

NXT has been around for 2 to 2 1/2 years that I know of.
All a matter of taste, IMO.
After poo-pooing Polymers for years, Meguiers is now fully in the polymer game.
I tried NXT on my Fiero.
It goes on as easily as Zaino.
It comes off as easily as Zaino.
It gave a slightly different "look".
Where Zaino is a mirror and is probably more reflective than NXT, NXT looks deeper. Nice look.
That's the good news.
The bad news is that for a polymer it is strangely short lived. Where Zaino gives me at least 6 months before it starts to lose its "slipperyness" and extreme water sheeting (not beading!), NXT starts to weaken in a month. Pretty much like a carnauba wax.
I gave the NXT away to the guy that bot the Fiero.
IMO, you pays your money and you takes your choice.

Thanks guys,
so basically the only drawback is that it does not last long....hm.....most polymer based products claim to last 6 - 12 months. I guess back to Collinite... |

My collinite wax job 4 months old is still beading nicely.
I did the dark lower portions of the wife's Tucson with collinite as well, loooooking goooood.
It seems that I really only have to do a full wax job twice a year. The roof and hood take the worst beating as Mo sits outside. But, with collinite it only takes 5 minutes or less to wax the hood or top.
I wash her with blue coral wash-N-wax, I'm sure that has a lot to do with it. |
|
|

| The Collinite is OK. What I would like however, is a little bit more "spark", "depth". I guess the only thing that can privide it is Carnauba based wax. I will try to put a leyer of NXT over the Collinite.. |
|
|
| GripperDon |
| I wash & completely rinse using RO water + Clay Bar (6mo intervals) then the Collinite, I am very satisified. :D |

OK, just to make things clear. The Murano is OK except some scratchers that my wife and a young lady "inflicted" on the on rear bumper. I will take car of it no problem. Also the Collinite did a good job.
The problem is the FX. With all my traveling I really did not have time to take good care of it. Also my wife tried to keep it clean and did some "semi dry cleaning". In the garage. Add to it Mall parking and.....uhm.........needs some work. I have ordered 3M polishing foam compound which with the PC 7424 should bring the life back to the FX. After that back to Collinite and will try to finish off with NXT.
Will let you know how does it work.....sometime in new year.... |

OK, washed Murano today. It still has a good layer of Collinite (last time Iwaxed it was probably 3 weeks ago) and tried the NXT. Some observations:
- very easy to put on, temps were in low 50's
- dried out quickly - less then 1 hour
- easy to buff off. I think even easier than Collinite
- looks good.
I would say if this wax (I know it is polymer..) lasted as long as Collinite I would switch. But I will not. I will use NXT as a second layer over the Collinite to get this deeper, wetter look... |

This thread inspired me to go out and buy the product pictured above in this thread. I'm impressed! OK, I have not had any time to see the longevity as I applied the product yesterday. The amazing part to me was the ease on and off. The shine is outstanding and there was no white power all over the place. There is no powder period. Found this at Wally World for 14 bucks and change. The web sight shows it retailing for 17 something dollars. My first thoughts, good stuff, I may have found a keeper.

Bob,
my experience is similar. I will use both Collinite as a base and NXT to add "depth"....
This stuff is very esy to put on and off........and looks good too....
Glad you like it... |

Gentlemen,
I used the NXT both last summer and this recently past summer and I have to say I really, really like the results vs. paste. Much less effort and it seems to add a layer of "ohhh yeah, that's nice" to the factory paint job. Honestly, I've had it last all summer once it gets warm enough to put it on in May here. I live on ND/MN border within 45 miles of Canadian border so without a heated garage I'm limited to when I can hand wax the vehicles. The only thing I regret is not getting a second waxing done in the late fall to last all winter to help fend off road salt. Driving down the road in a rain storm is like a free wash for the Mo when using the NXT, it's like the proverbial water off a duck's back.
Even with several hand washes and a few "mechanical" washes a summer, the NXT holds up nicely in my opinion. I'll try and find a picture or two for you guys, cross your fingers as I'm tech challenged! |

| Gripperdon touch on something. he uses RO water which is treated water. hard water could be bad. I have hard water and it tears my clothes apart when i wash them , not to mention all the detergent i have to use to get them clean. just image what hard water can be doing to your paint. I had my water tested by a water treatment guru from the job that found high level of chlorine , calcium etc. I see a water softner or RO kit in my future. |

Man, I have never thought of that.
Well today i'm gonna wash, clay, wax (colinite), wax again (nxt). I hope doesn't rain during the process. I haven't waxed a car in 6 years, so it might be an all day event. I'll try to get some pics up. :4: |

- wash car - 45 min
- Collinite on - 10 min
- wait for Collinite - 15 min
- buff off Collinite - 15 min
- NXT on - 10 min
- wait for NXT - 10 min
- buff off NXT - 15 min
now do the math.....it definitely is not all day...;)
Good luck |

Finished!!
Started at 9:00 am et
Done at 1:45 pm et
It didnt rain, but very cloudy. The wax was easy on, easy off. Clay barring the car took a while (I was trying to be picky). I was a able to slap some black magic on the shoes and snap some pix right before it started raining! I'll try to post them up. The end result is NICE:D Great combination. Before jumping on the forum I had never heard of "colinite" and probably never cared for NXT... the rain that fell was only a cloud passing by and the paint is still gleaming!! Thanks guys, for all your hard work. I really appreciate it. No more rust spots!! I hope the pics will do the MO justice. |

Make sure the photo size is under 104kb.
You can use many photo editing software programs that wil resample your photo. Windows XP has a utility that will allow it for free. Also it is nice if horizontal picture size does not exceed 800 pixels. It fitts screen nicely.
Cant wait to see your job....;) |

It's hard to capture the gloss of a newly waxed GLACIER MO, especially under such gloomy conditions.
I'm sure you did a great job and I bet it feels SMOOTH. |

I am glad it worked for you! Nice job!
NELSON,
see below - just an example of "capture the gloss of a newly waxed GLACIER FX"......it can be done....
PS. Yes, it is my car. Yes I did the waxing. Yes, I did take the photo....;)

OK, so where can a detailing newbie such as myself find colinite and nxt. I found an online store carrying the colinite products but which one do you guys use?
On another note, I got hit by a rock from a big rig the other day and it nicked my hood. It made a small spot down to the metal. Do you guys recommend touch-up paint to cover that?
My MO is glacier pearl also, BTW.

The colinite is #845. I bought mine here http://www.autogeek.net/collinite.html
If the chip is right down to the metal you might not have another DIY solution than touching up with matching paint. Maybe someone else might have a better idea... anyways, today is day 3 w/ my wax job. The MO got a little dirty, but that stuff just blows right off the paint. Thats protection!! Still shining!! |

Go to AutoZone or similar auto shop and ask them. You should be able to pick up one made by Mother's, McMaguire's etc.
What is it? As name says: clay. Special one. It removes small dirt particles from the car without scratching....
Here is a good link to leard about it: clay bar |

I just bought my 07 Glacier Pearl, so I only washed it today. I also have an 04 Mazda RX8 in Brilliant black. The only thing I will ever use on it is Zaino. This stuff is AMAZING! The shine is so deep. It's easy to apply and multiple applications are easy and look even better. Check them out at http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc
I can't wait to get it on that pearl finish.:) |

| How'bout Zymoil? It's done a decent job for mine. But I also have heard great things about Zaino products from friends of mine. I'm thinking about using it or the Colinite. I'll definitively go and buy that Clay Bar after work and spend some time with it, and see the difference before applying Zymoil. |

Been using NXT on my 350Z - Lemans Sunset - for 2 years. Luv it !!!
Besides the paste, it also comes in a spray which I use for touch-up between NXT liquid applications. It's great too. |
