When will Nissan bump up the HP? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Looking on the Nissan site I notice that the 2007 Altima uses a CVT while the engine's output states 270 HP!

Yes it does........and if you build your own, you can add a CVT and.........there is no detuning of the engine ........AND the CVT is a NO CHARGE CHOICE!
Amazing.

So why no 270 HP for our MO's?

dmako-

I am not 100% certain that this is the exact same version of the CVT that we have in the MO. What I do know for certain is that the MO's CVT is manufactured in Japan, while the Altima's CVT is manufactured in a recently-built factory in Mexico.

It is entirely possible that it is the same version. My guess is that the Altima also incorporates a throttle-by-wire system similar to the MO's to control (limit) the application of power (torque) to the CVT.

I am giving up on CVT for a few years now........will wait till it proves itself and Mexico proves manufacturing quality...

The MO isn't exactly slow when compared to its closest competitors - the Mazda CX-7, Toyota Highlander, and Honda Pilot. While more power would be appreciated, the CVT makes high revs difficult unless you really plant your foot down. Unlike a normal automatic which will rev to peak hp RPM even with half throttle, the MO's electronic throttle is a bit limp - you need to really floor it to get it to rev past 4500 rpm. So, any HP increase would likely go untapped.

Oh well there is always Ds. :D :D

Woohoo for 03 SE's with Ds.
GripperDon
Revamp the "S" position so it is a lot more aggressive. :D

Yeah I love Ds. Its plenty powerful to me (for an SUV) and pushes me to the back of the seat, so its a hoot to use.
