I just watched a video clip of Nissans new Rogue which will debut in the US in the fall. It is a mini SUV and has some nice features like power hatch, although it looks and acts more like a mini van.
Maybe the new Mo will have some of the features of the lower price Rogue!! |

Not a bad looking car.
2.5L 4 banger, CVT, available AWD, 17" WHEELS.
The one thing I find odd is that the Rogue has steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters on a car equipped with a CVT. :8: If you are marketing the CVT as shift-less then why promote shifting?

for the same reason they have the manual shifting on the se mo's... |

Don't you know that being able to shift a car that doesn't shift may be interpreted by a lot of people as "cool"!
This is what sells cars, folks, not any of the real stuff! |

If you sell the car as shiftless you will get grand dad.
If you sell it with paddle shifters you will get the grandson.
Why minimize your market?

I look at it from an engineering perspective. If you hadn't had to spend a few hundred dollars incorporating the non-essential paddle shifters, what other more essential item could have been added or improved upon.
Paddle shifters belong on sports cars with semi-automatic transmissions, not on a family mini-ute with a four-banger coupled to a CVT.

Maybe........... with 170HP and maybe more than 500 pounds pared off...........the CVT is programmed for a much more aggressive profile.
Who knows it might be right spritely off the line. The Xtronic has been tested for millions of miles with a 245HP 4000 pound load............
Besides they had to do something.
Even our old original MOs had a "Ds" function....even in the SL.
The standard Rogue has nothing. PRND. That's it.
I don't know about the rest of you oldtimers, but when I want to get somewhere in a hurry, I slap it down in Ds.
The Rogue needed something if they were going to sell it as a sporty crossover.
And since it is just a computer program, it cost virtually nothing to do it......and they are going to charge you for it besides.

I'm not sold. That front end looks weird. It's trying to be Mo - but misses the mark.
I also think the wheels look to small for this thing.
A friend is going to the detroit auto show and I've asked that she take some pictures of it.
Who knows maybe I'll like it in person?!
I just don't feel that "gotta have it" feeling that came when I first saw Mo.
Too bad - had Nissan (IMO) nailed the design, this would have been THE contender against the CX-7 |
