I have an '03 Murano with 57k miles. Car has been perfect. But, recently I've noticed some quirks with the transmission. It seems a bit 'sluggish', and at low speeds, under load, it doesn't seem to engage quite right -- hard to explain. It seems to be lunging a bit. My wife has also noticed it. The tranny oil has never been changed. I took it to a Nissan dealer at about 50k and he said it checked out OK.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

pbeinetti-
Since you are approaching the end of the 60,000 mile powertrain warranty I would make damn sure the dealer correctly diagnoses and repairs the problem.
Keep track of the problems and try to isolate the conditions where the lunging occurs. For example, does it happen when the car is cold or warmed up? Does it happen after driving on the highway? If you can pinpoint the conditions then try to duplicate them with the Service Adviser behind the wheel.
The key is to get the dealer to acknowledge there is a problem before the warranty expires.
Good luck.

| I agree with joe - the most important thing for you to do right now is the find a way to show the dealership the exact problem. Don't just tell them "its not driving well" - take a technician for a test drive and keep driving until the problem happens and the technician says "ok, now I know what the problem is, lets go back to the garage and have a look at it." |

Pete, if I couldn't accomplish what joe and Eric are talking about........intermittent symptoms are tough.......I would buy an extended warranty before 60K.
Shop hard and you could probably get one cheap.
Then don't worry about it.

Hi, Pete. Sounds like the problem we had with ours. I think our MO returned to ok status due to battery disconnect and reset of computer. However...as I recollect, our alternater was replaced under recall. Maybe that had something to due with curing of "lunging" problem. Original alternater was not showing any actual symptoms prior to recall.
I am not a mechanic and these newer electonics are beyond me...just my two cents worth. Other's advice to you is excellent. Good people on this site and worth listening to. Darrell. ):
PS. I knew I would have a problem convincing the dealer of this problem due to the fact that it occured only after an extended drive and usually while going slowly up our steep hill to home. However, codes sometimes point the way to diagnosis. |

| One more, if you don't get the extended warranty that covers the transmission, sell the Car. |
