In past 3 years I have file my own tax returns using taxcut or other programs and always do it what the program let me claim according to taxcut software,I dont own any business or have properties for rent so not much to claim but my mortgages interest and child care and child credit, but my neighbor uses a tax preparer guy who claim every single thing, example if you have stocks he claim computers, internet service,tv's,cable, because thats all part of stocks maintenance thats what he said,he also claim clothes bought thru out the year, gas, dry cleaner expenses, make ups, moving expenses etc etc and he said the deadline of april to file taxes is bullcrap you got up to 3 years to file your taxes without any penalties,he filed my neighbor already filed 03,04,05 again and got him back $12,000 using forms 1040X.
pretty much about 70% of federal tax paid has being back to him plus interests.
he looks like he knows whats hes talking about,he said government owe you that money but dont want you to know it, he said he got a $3000 software that pulls all those taxable things that you are entitled to claim.
he do a really professional job filing taxes with his own company name license number to prepare taxes etc.
now question is , is this is legit?if so how come hr block, jackson hewitt and all those companys dont do that?
my brother in law up in jersey got a guy too that do his taxes and bring him back 70% 80% oh his fed tax paid,a friend of mine up in chicago also got a preparer that does that too, and both have being doing it for years, Im I missing something? |

And there are many more who have done it for longer. And many who have done it for a shorter amount of time.
Until their audits, and the ensuing Fed seizures, and resulting days in tax court and years in the Pen.
You just don't hear much about those. |

This is your first post on this forum and your topic has nothing to do with Muranos, or any car for that matter. Not that there is anything wrong with that, it is just that I find it a bit strange.
Are you really a MO-enthusiast or are you just setting us up for a sales pitch pertaining to tax preparation?

Did you get the leather package? If so, I hear you can also claim that in your taxes as a write off !! :D I'm just kidding.
Interesting topic to bring up, since it is tax season and EVERYONE here has to do their taxes soon. I always followed my guts... if it doesn't feel legal, it probably isn't. i suggest you think about the consequences in case it isn't legal, rather then the perk of getting extra money back. I don't think the gov. would be happy if you stole from them... which is how they would look at it, rather then the gov thinking... you know what... 'we owe it to you, so take it." So is it worth the risk? Good luck with your decision.
(Jeez, just someone saying "good luck" to making a decision about taking a chance on your taxes should make you a little scared. No ?) |

One thing... you don't have to file in April.... but if you owe $$$ then you will have to pay interest and penalities for late filing. If you owe $0 or are due a refund you are probably OK.
One thing I"ve learned... look out for yourself.... you are the only person that will. Tax preparers aren't always what they seem. |

Many years ago I tried to do taxes myself. Took me a weekend and ended up with "owing" to the government. So I went to taxpreparer - got a refund!
Last 8 years a have been using software. It takes me 2 hrs or so. Filling on-line. No problems. Already done it last weekend.
A word of warning - it it sounds too good to be true.....you know the rest.
$3,000 for "professional" software......hm.......no wonder they need to recover this expense. I would say - be careful. In the end you are the one that is responsible for filing the taxes the "right" way. Comes audit time, as others mentioned, you are on your own......maybe even in 6 x 8...;)
As much as I have paying taxes they are necessity. Roads, police, teachers, army - they have to funded somehow.... |

I use a tax preparer who will stand by me if ever audited. After 12 years with the same preparer, I've never been audited. A good tax preparer will know what you can legally claim. I have my own business (consulting) and as such, I can claim part of my house, computers, equipment and stationary purchases, internet and telephone fees, mileage, clothes, etc. as part of the deduction.
I could do my own taxes, but I've learned long ago that as your life becomes more complicated, so do your tax returns. My tax preparer has saved me many thousands of dollars each year. I personally think it's worth trying at least once to see if the cost of your preparer is offset by any increased returns you receive.

it might work the try,you know when you pay a tax preparer to do your taxes its out of your power if the preparer files the taxes the right way or not , in that case all the blame will fall to the preparer if he screw up,you might end up paying the money back but it wont go further than that like landing up in jail ,he might(the preparer).
Like I said I have done my own taxes past 3 years and I think I done'em right but who knows they might have being filed wrong too.
when I used to pay to tax preparer agent@jackson hewitt or h&r block sometimes I used to compare between them to see which one was able to come up with more money back ,
and differences on tax returns sometimes was for several hundreds from each other.
so there was someone not doing they're job right.
anyway to look up online the status with the state of a preparer by license number or name? |

Sorry, mofever, but that is exactly NOT the way the IRS sees it. As far as they are concerned, you are the one who is resposible for the accuracy of your tax return. That's the rules...
After all, it is you who choses your tax preparer. |
