Ipod Module for 05 Murano - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hi

I just wanted to share my experience on the new ipod gateway module available at Nissan dealers. As many of you have written, the dealers dont list it under Murano. They will tell you it is not meant for any of the Muranos. However if you call with the specific part number(The part #'s are 999U7-VS000 (Harness Type B) and 999U7-VR002 (iPod adapter) they will sell it to you. Usually they will not install it on a Murano as it may void some of the warranty.
Anyway after reading all the posts I bought the Ipod module and the harness type B. I did a quick installation just to verify whether the whole set up works. The quick install took just 10 minutes as I did not fasten the equipment or pull the ipod cable under the carpet.
I plugged the type B harness to the empty satellite cable situated right next to the Bose amp under the right rear passenger seat accessible by folding the rear seat completely and lifting the fabric and vinyl cover. There is enough space to attach the module but I will do the final installation later as I did not have enough time. The other end of the cable went into the ipod module and the ipod itself was hooked up using the supplied ipod cable.
I turned the radio on and pressed the sat button and there it was! It listed the Ipod module as XM but the music started playing immediately.
Navigating the Ipod is tricky. I had to use the seek,FF, PGM, and tuner knob to navigate through the ipod menu. Most of the menu including playlist, album, artist and songs are available. The navigation is a tad bit slow and cumbersome but it works as stated. The steering controls are limited to volume control and switching between cd,radio, tape and sat.
Now, coming to the most important part, the sound quality. In one word- awesome! Its definitely CD quality sound. I had tried 2 different FM tuners before. There is absolutely no comparison. My gripes about this module is that there is no decent factory installation instructions and the navigation through ipod is slow. Its better to put all the songs in seperate playlists so accessing them is easier. You also lose control of the click wheel on the ipod as soon as its hooked up to the module.
I am doing the final installation over the weekend. I also found out that the module works perfectly well without the Type B harness. I plugged the module directly to the sat cable and hooked up a grounding cable from radio shack. I will return the B harness back to the dealer. The unit cost $175 and the harness is $30.Is it worth it? I think its a little bit expensive for the functionality it offers. But being able to carry my entire music collection anywhere and listen to it in my car- I think is worth paying $175.
I plan to leave the Module behind the rear seat next to the Bose Amp and pull the Ipod into one of the spaces next to the spare tire as I don't plan on updating the ipod frequently. This way I don't have to cut anything and the whole system is completely hidden. There is no real advantage to place the ipod in the center console other than being able to retrieve the ipod quickly. Remember the click wheel on the ipod does not work when connected to the module.

I will try to post some photos after the final installation. Comments welcome.

Thanks

Welcome to the club! BTW, you can change songs on the steering wheel by holding the '^' button for longer than 3 seconds.

Thanks for the tip Rixmo. I will try that on the steering wheel control. BTW the module is not perfect but the audio quality is so much better than any other interface that its probably worth it.

Thanks

Thanks, MuranoMax! I'm just about to order this module as a little reward to myself for accepting a new job today (yes, yes, thanks for the applause).

At first I was a little dismayed at the cost of this, but after hearing so many people that are happy with it, I just have to get it. I gave up on my FM tuner long ago, and have been using a tape adapter instead. MUCH better than the FM tuner, but still obnoxious both in sound quality as well as having a cord draping over the shifter.

I'd like to request a pic from you of the overall contents that you received for your $175 + $30.

Does the module charge the Ipod?
muranomax
Yes it does charge the ipod.

Thanks

Hi Corin
I have posted photos and Ipod installation details. I included a photo of the contents of the kit that is available at Nissan dealers. The module kit is $175 and the type B harness is $30. I did not need the harness so I am returning it to the dealer. The final installation went very well and it took less than an hour. Please check out the photos in the members gallery by clicking on the gallery button at the bottom of this post for all photos or on the link just for the photo of contents.
Thanks
