I know most of us are intimately aware of phish email.

But, I just had to warn some of our gang who may not know about phishing. (blame it on the born admin in me, gotta protect the flock ya know)

Phishing emails are emails that look exactly like they came from your bank or a credit card company or as another large round of phishing is doing-- pretending to be an email from Paypal saying you have ordered a huge amount of Dell computers.
DO NOT FALL FOR THIS, DO NOT CLICK ON ANY LINKS IN THESE TYPES OF EMAILS.

You will either have a backdoor installed on your machine or just end up giving them your account names and passwords.

Banks, credit card companies and Paypal will NOT send you an email asking for your credentials, EVER.

OK, off my warning box now :)

Good advice. I get at least one of these everyday. One way I check on these is to place the curser on the link without cliking it and look at the URL for that link on the status bar on the bottom of the screen. Almost always it points to a website other than the institution it was supposerdly sent from.

Thanks. and BTW, they have figured out how to make the cursor thing look real as well.

One thing I try to tell folks is that they create a mailbox at a place like mail.com and NEVER give out your private email addresses to a web site or business. Always give out your web mail address and all the crap will go there.
I have never received spam on my work or my home email because of this.

I agree with all of the above!

If you will send me your name, SS & bank account numbers I will make sure you never get a phishing email again!
