$155.00 plus tax for the valet key - Click HERE for Original Thread
merlotSE+cbrRR
this is my first thread ever so forgive my ignorance.

So about a month ago my wife went to the stealership for a free oil change. so i gave her the valet key which i usually have. and last week i went to get it back and it wasn't on her key chain. i asked her where it was and of course she had no idea what happened to it. i was pissed off.

so after she jogged her memory she remembered that she put it in her jacket pocket for some stupid and lazy reason, but fortunately we were on the way to the airport and it was in her luggage and she would get it out when we got there. but of course we forgot. so she says she would mail it to me from Ireland (she is going for 2 weeks and there postal system is somewhat inconsistent.).

last night when i got home i checked the mail and what was there a envelope form USPS with the envelope the had the key in it but it was torn and the key was gone.

now as of about 10 minutes ago i thought the key was like $35 but after calling up the stealership they told me the key was $60 and then to program it was an another $95.

UNBELIEVABLE!!!

I know the smart key was around $250 but $155 for the stupid key.

whose stupid know?

now its not about the money, just the principle of the ridiculous programing fee. mad:

That's ridiculous! Add about $200 more and invest in a remote starter. Well worth it, especially for us in the colder climates.

that car is leased so I'm eventually going to have to replace it.

i just called up the post office to ask them what i can do in this situation. i asked them even though there was no insurance or tracking on this envelope is it possible to find it or check some sort of a lost and found. they said there is and i need to go to the post office and fill out a form and give a description.

how many Nissan keys can they have?

i am also going to tell my wife to contact the Irish post office and do the same. they probably wont even know what a car key is, just kidding, my son is half Irish and half polish...

Finding that key would be like finding the proverbial needle in a haystack. It could have fallen out anywhere along it's route. The key could be in any of the several post offices and distribution centers in Ireland and the US. I wish you luck.

The price for a new programmed key varies by dealership. Call around and look for a better deal.

Do you still have the two regular keys? If so, I doubt the leasing company would even notice if you turned in 2 keys and 2 remotes.

good point, but i do have the car valeted occasionally
GripperDon
the Nissan key not intellegent but the 2005 key?

Now, I know this isnt the point and I sympathize with you on rediculous costs of keys from dealerships. But was it that important to have the valet key that you needed it mailed from Ireland?
merlotSE+cbrRR
yes, i usually drive my pickup to work and my wife uses the murano . i leased it for her and my son.

i have a '99 dodge dakota with 250,000 miles on it that i paid $900 for a year ago. so when shes gone i like to travel in style.

As I understand it, the only thing the valet key doesn't do that the normal key does is open the glovebox. Why would this be a problem if all you keep in there is the owner's manual and such?

I feel sorry for you. However:
1. you lost the key. It was more or less your fault.

2. dealer is trying to gouge you. Nothing unusual these days. and nothing unusual as it comes to dealers.

3. better stop whining and get a new key (pay what they want but barging=n hard, you will get a discount).

4. forget the valet key and get over it. It is not wart your time.

Sorry for being harsh, but I am used to pay form mistakes/mishaps. Maybe this is my upbringing...

i know your right. i just wanted to let people know the cost of the key.

Merlot-

If you do a search you will see that the cost of a dealer-programmed key varies greatly. My suggestion is to let your fingers do the walking. Call a couple of dealers in the area and see who offers the best deal. It'll probably save you 50 bucks.
