Also completed another very helpful project with the installation of the Motorola IHF1000 Bluetooth car kit. Quite impressive system, the best voice recognition algorythm that I've seen yet. I use it along with a Blackberry 7100i.

Also installed the excellent mute box (schematic by Jaak) to make the Bose radio go mute when either the phone rings or when I communicate with the nice lady in the IHF1000. The sound from the IHF1000 is then fed to the Bose amp and (Infinity) speakers.

Hey CoolMomo!

I bought everything from eBay so I paid less than $300 for all speakers (Kappa 62.7 front and rear and 10.7t in-dash tweeters). The IHF1000 was also acquired on eBay for $200. All prices include s&h. The radio mute box is $115. I also got an iPod interface from the same place for $220 with all harnesses including the SAT harness if I decide to add this option later.

Total $835 for the entire kit. Now I need a OEM hitch but I will probably get it installed in Plattsburgh because the s&h + duties are completely insane otherwise...

i always wanted to install kappa series, but too much $$

i never used ebay yet.. maybe i have to try this time.

Dear Sim, Is the mute box a real necessity? Can it be installed without the mute box? From what i understand, the mute box mutes all speakers VS only 2 front ones that are "default splice into installation"? I am deciding between a Motorola and a Parrot units and would like to get away with minimal modifications.

gs465,

No car kit is by itself able to mute the Murano's Bose radio when receiving or initiating a call. None.

In order to get rid of the little speaker that comes inevitably with every car kit, Parrot, Motorola, etc............ you need some sort of interface to feed the sound into the amplifier so that you can hear it through your sound system. This interface can also mute the radio when a call is in progress or when you need to give commands to the charming lady or even when she tells you that your cell phone battery is low.

You only need the mute box interface if you want these features added. It is not necessary otherwise.

Now, I don't know about the Parrot box but I know that Motorola does not produce such an interface. It was designed for myself by a friend in 2004 and it does the same job with any Bluetooth car kit that is equiped with a mute ground signal wire (for the Bose only).

Now from what I learned comparing Parrot and Motorola car kits, it seems that Parrot is a superior unit as it allows you to be connected 1) external speaker OR 2) using your car's speakers . It connects so that when Parrot receives a signal it just cuts off your radio/amplifier signal to speakers and outputs directly to your front door speakers using an internal amplifier.
In my opinion it is a better scenario:
-No additional hardware to purchase/install
-Does not matter if you have BOSE or non-BOSE radio (the only difference is where do you locate your speaker wires-- with BOSE they are in the back at the amplifier)

IMO the only shortcoming of that setup is that only front speakers get muted, back speakers will continue to play your radio...
Is my assumption correct? Any thoughts from the people who have installed Parrot or both units?
