My Murano went to the dealership today.
So far, the problem has been confirmed.
Luckily, I was able to replicate it with the service guy.
"Valve Body" issues
Basically, loss of power from a stopped position. With engine running smoothly, I pressed on the gas pedal and no response from the RPM gauge. 10-15 seconds later, the MO would begin to creep forward very slowly.
This can be very dangerous if one of us is turning onto an intersection. This should be a major recall.
Oh yeah, I've already had the transmission replaced before at 20,000 -30,000 miles. I'm at 79,000+ miles and now this issue. Luckily, I'm still covered under warranty.
I'll keep you posted. |

| Thats what happened to me when my Trans went out after 25k. They tried to replace the throtle body and still did it. |

I am surprised they did not try to soak you for $5,000 by installing a new tranny. Who discovered the technical bulletin, you or them?
The TB appears to have been released just a few months ago (November 2006). This is good news for MO owners who are out of warranty. Replacing the valve body is a less-costly option as compared to replacing the entire CVT. And my guess is that at least a few of those failed trannies could have been fixed by applying this TB.
Out of curiosity what is the cost for installing the new valve body? The TB lists 1.4 hours.

| Interesting TSB. And as Joe I am interested in the pricing. I wonder how many failed CVT's needed just that. Let's hope Nissan/Jatco are learning.... |

An hour after I dropped off the Mo, the service guy called me. He was the one who discovered the TSB. This problem just came up that day so I wasn't able to research it prior to bringing it to the dealership. The moment he sat inside I mentioned the tranny was replaced before. That probably kept him from trying to get money out of me. Either way, my warranty to the tranny was renewed after the tranny change. They are still waiting for the parts so maybe 1-2 days I'll get my Mo back and I'll get all the pricing then. |

Can you explain? My understanding is that replacement parts are covered for either the remainder of the original warranty of the failed part or 1 year and 12,000 miles, whichever is longer. In this case it would be the original warranty, which would have expired at 60,000 miles. |

I think there was a TB before that. Same problem with my 2003 MO back last August. Only occurred a couple of times on the same trip within the city (Halifax at the time) then OK. Week or so later took it to the dealer for regular service and reported the problem.
Immediately diagnosed it as covered under TSB 05090 dated Oct 5/05 which can be found on the 'nissanhelp.com' website. Parts installed exactly match those required by that TSB. No problem since, in fact MPG improved slightly following the reprogramming.
...and as I recall some pictures from that TSB were posted on this forum since they gave us one of the first sights of the CVT belt.. |

The TSB you referenced, 05090, concerns the throttle valve. The TSB that N2MURANOS was talking about is 06084 which concerns the replacement of the valve body on the tranny. Those two TSBs are not related.

| Thanks for the clarification. Interesting though that the symptons exhibited by these two items when they do not perform to spec are very similar and they both form part of the tranny. |
