Hello folks. I ordered my 07 Murano yesterday. Super Black with a few options. Its my first new car and I can't wait. I figured this would be a good first post then to search the forumns for all the dummy questions I have.
I can't believe I have to wait until the end of the month.... but maybe thats how thing work overhere in Japan.
Anyways, I look forward to conversing with all of you and sharing knowledge and friendship.

When I got mine, I did a factory order and had to wait 100 days!!!! Be thankful you only have to wait a little less than a month! :)
Definitely worth the wait, though. |

Hudaman-
Congrats on your soon-to-be-new MO and welcome to the forum!
Out of curiosity, is it typical in Japan to have to wait for a new car? Or are Muranos in short supply?

Hi again. Thanks for the warm welcome and 'feel good' comments.
I'm not a big forums poster guy (yet) so I'm not sure how to do the quotes and answer thing but I'll try to reply as best as I can.
This is my 10th car, but my first new car... can't wait for the smell... Mmmm... Most of my other cars have been 'racing' sporty cars. Silvia (240sx), 94 tt Supra, tt Chaser.. so the MO being a SUV or a crossover vehicle as I've seen it referred to is a first too.
In Japan, as far as I've seen, the new car dealers only have 1, maybe 2 of each of their models that they are currently selling on the lot. This allows you to see them in person and get that 'ohh.. its much nicer in person' feeling. So all new cars are individually ordered for purchase.
They only offer certain cars at certain times for testdriving. If you the customer insists on a test drive before ordering, they will try to borrow an employees car or a friends car for the drive. Sadly, I'm not very persistent and decided that I really didn't need a testdrive so I'll have to wait until later for my test drive. The salesman... errr... saleswoman said that if she had gotten my order on Fri (instead of Sat afternoon) that my MO would have been ready a week or 2 earlier... I couldn't imagine waiting for 100 days... what torture.
I'm taking a friend to Hawaii at the end of the month so when I get back I should have a nice 'Welcome Home' gift waiting on me.
I got the 2.5XL. Available with a normal 4 gear Automatic.
As you can see from the link, http://www2.nissan.co.jp/MURANO/Z50...RADE/main1.html the sticker price is 2,893,800 yen. (113 yen to the dollar, so divide by 113)
I only got a few options:
Intelligent key Y57,750
Window Visor Y24,255
Floor Mats Y42,000
Momo Steering Wheel Y66,045 (Looks so sweet)
The dealer suggested I get some corrosion control done to it too so they added:
Royal Coating (??) Y52,500
Window Coating Y6,300
Super Coating Y35,700
Yaddi Yaddah Yaddi after its all said and done my total is Y3,135,000 (about 28K). Some sweet talking and a phone dropped the price a few grand to that price. New car tax and plating a new vehicle costs a 2-3 grand over here.
I think over all I got a great deal.
Yeah, I already spend the $20 and downloaded the service manuals and am reading (instead of working) everything I can get my eyes on about the audio system... or modifying it I should say. I have a HD Media Player and an Xbox wanting to go for a ride! hehe....
The Bose sound system is stock and the only option over here is the navigation package and since Okinawa is about 25x76 miles large, I didn't feel that neccessary.
Well, again, Thank you all for the kind words.

| Congratulations on the new MO. You probably didn't need those extra "coatings" (they tend to be dealer profit only) but it still sounds like you got a great car. Let us know how the 2.5 performs in the Murano - most of us here have the 3.5 but are not too pleased with the fuel economy! :) |

Ha! Yeah, it was tough. And when you add on the fact that I was researching vehicles for almost a year before actually putting in my order, it was a VERY long time. If you look at a time-line of my posts, I was a member on this forum almost a year in advance, posting and asking questions.
I put in a LOT of research, and made SURE that this was the vehicle for me. The ONLY thing I have regretted is that I have to deal with the crappy Nissan USA service departments, but you probably have much better ones over there! :) It's a wonderful vehicle and I'm sure you'll enjoy it greatly.
Make sure you post pics and everything when it arrives! |

Eric - matter of perspective. I recently returned a leased Pontiac Montana - with a 3.4 - that got about 17.1 l/100km (14 mpg) on average with mostly city driving. On the highway, it would get around 23 - 24 mpg. I no longer needed a third row seat and, among many other reasons to choose it, the Murano was rated the "best" of a number of CUVs I was looking at, including the RX330 and MDX. I get around 13.5 l/100 right now (18 mpg) doing exactly the same driving I used to do with the Montana. My neighbor has the RX330 and gets about 14 l/100 according to his computer - and he does more highway than I do.
I had looked at a couple of 4 cylinder units, notably the CRV, Rav 4 and the Nissan X-Trail - with the 2.5 liter Nissan engine (not available in the US - kind of like a CRV) - all of which would have saved me about 25% in fuel I reckon. When I look at my annual fuel costs - at the higher Cdn prices than the US - I will spend about $1400 per annum to run the Murano versus $350 more to run an "economy" unit. With the added comfort, power and safety (curtain airbags and better NHTSA rating), this is a really nice dinner out - per year.
I would not want to run a Murano AWD at about 4000 pounds in our traffic with a 2.5 engine. It would be a real challenge to safety and, depending on how fast one goes, may not actually save on fuel.
As always, YMMV |

I GOT IT!!!
I have put about 100 km on it lastnight and am so happy with my MO. At first I felt kinda like it was short on cool features, but as I and my friends play around, I keep saying "cool, I didn't see that". Little doors hiding this and that. I'll Try and get some more pics of it up as I can. My crappy phone camera is all I have with me at work again today.
Oh, and as far an my seat of the pants feeling. I have had a lowered 2000 Honda Stream 1.7 (DA17+muffler and fresh air intake) for the past few years rollin on 215/40R18. The 2.5 MO actually seems tighter and has waaaay more guts then my last ride. I'm sure the larger engine will shoot this puppy down the road a bit more forcefully, but it aint a sports car, so I'm damn pleased. |
