I was thinking this morning while driving my old Z to work, about a car in the 30-35K range with these priorities:
Good looks
performance
economy
practicality
resale value |

Acura TSX
another 5 grand, the TL type S.
Being that you have a 2 seater, maybe these sedans aren't needed related to your lifestyle. |

Ironically enough for me, it would be the Murano.
I need something that is comfortable for cross-state trips, relatively fun to drive, and can tow a modest amount (3000 lbs).
Basically comes down to a Murano, Lexus 330 hybrid (whatever it's actually called), Volvo V70R, or Dodge Magnum. Murano is the best bang for the buck, IMO.
Same reasons I bought it. My wife's car gets better mileage, has a much smaller environmental footprint, and is very reliable, but it's not that comfortable for long trips and I think that if I put a trailer hitch on it, the towing capacity would be about 50 lbs.... :)
Hopefully they will start adding towing capacity to CARS again soon, so I don't have to drive an SUV, but until that time, it's the Murano for me. |

I agree. My only issue is the uncertainty about CVT life. |

That’s a tough one. I’d have to say a used S4 either sedan or wagon depending on the amount of practicality you need. Perhaps a Mazdaspeed 6 or a used 2006 330i)
The Z is a good car if you only need two seats since it’s a hatch and it’s a good overall performer. If I had only needed two seats I would have bought a Z or a used Z4.
The new Pontiac G8, Mitsubishi Evo X, Subaru Impreza and G35 Coupe all come out in less than a year depending on how soon you want one.
Just depends on what priority you have on your list.
The Murano is good if good looks, practicality, resale value are the real priorities. If you need good practicality and good performance there isn’t much better than a 3 series. |
