The Murano was gutted for a month while parts were fabricated the center console was sanded and repaint , we are still adding things like the playstation is fitted into the console like it came from the factory , also the push to start , when I dissarm the arm system the acc 1 is swithed , then Ill hit the hazzard button that swithes the acc 2 then the push button to start . I'm afraid this will go on forever , . Suicide door are in the planing stages |

I think we need to assign you your own thread so you can keep us up to date on your progress. Please post pictures so we can see how the project is progressing.
Suicide doors!? They will be pretty damn sharp if you can pull it off. That's not going to be easy, though. I wish you luck.
Will the Super-MO be a show car or a daily-driver?

Didnt cut the board , the controlles would not work if I did , that board with all the ac controlls and the radio was the laziest thing nissan every came up with |

I'm sure there are other places to find it, but while searching for kits I found this place... or someone else pointed it out to me.. Im not sure anyways... It has most of the kits on one handy page, with US prices.

And as I posted on another post, there is a new kit that has recently been released over here, the invader kit, looks similar, but its about $500 cheaper... Not sure when it will be available in the US though. |

I think this thread has been hijacked by the Pandora kit. Anyway, back to the original topic.
SD,
You would make the original Super Dave Osbourne proud. That setup is fantastic!! It must of originally killed you to cut out the sides of the console like that?
I'm guessing you were able to remove the back half of the radio and snake the wires through the OEM HU tape deck opening for the new HU. I was thinking of doing the same thing at one time for a HD or SAT radio as shown below.
I think this would be a great sticky. :29: :29: - Two thumbs up!

Great thread. Dave kudos for a very original and well-executed install. I am still struggling to figure it all out. Is this correct?:
- OEM unit removed, Alpine in it's place, but only being used for FM and amplifier... faceplate connected thru cables as shown
- 1/2 DIN CD/DVD in lower console used for playing all discs?
.... or, are you somehow able to feed a disc thru the OEM slot to the Alpine player?
My OEM CD player bit the dust, so I am using a 1/2 DIN DVD player, connected to the OEM HU via a PAC AAI-NIS. Wish my install was anywhere close to yours asthetically. |
|
|
| xconcepts |
turbo- what Dave did was remove the oem radio from the back of the unit, keeping the circuit board intact. The alpine unit was placed in line with the original oem cd slot and snaked wires from the face plate to the actual alpine unit.
Thus being able to use the faceplate controls but use the original cd slot still for the alpine unit.
The 1/2 DVD in the lower console is used for the computer set up he has in the MO. |
|
|
| turbodog |
| Man, that makes this install even slicker than I originally thought.....and I thought it was pretty darn slick. |

| What did you do with the volume and tuner control knobs that stick out further than the all the other controls? Did you complete remove them, trim them, or recess the circuit board so that they do not stick out? Trying to do an install myself, and this is the one thing that is holding me back from doing it. |

| Just out of curiosity. How come no one just leaves the stock radio alone. Un hook it in the back, and splice into the wires for the speakers, power and ACC. Then simply put your aftermarket HU underneath the current radio/HVAC setup. |

| How would you be able to access the headunit if you install it behind the factory headunit ? |

I think he meant "under" it, where the shifter tray is.
Hey SuperDave, I was checking your pics in MP3car.com and saw your PS2 install. Slick! I also noticed your carputer doesn not have a box. Is radio interference with your remote fob a problem? Where you finally able to configure Proximo CF with RR? That is what I want to use but had to switch back to Frodoplayer because it was easier on the processor. |
|
|
| nem3 |
Superdave, zebelkhan is correct in his assumption. The problem with my headunit is that I would not be able to make a cable as you did. Because the contacts on mine do not plug into each other. They merely touch each other. Not to mention I think just splicing in is a far more viable option for most of the users here. As your beautiful install would require an entirely new console. That is something I could do, but would rather not. Plus I could make a enclosure for the radio to fit underneath much easier.
btw, major kudos for the install. Looks great.:D |
|

Well here are pics of the almost completed project. Radio is installed and fully functional. And I can at any time remove it and simply plug in the stock radio. Here are some pics for you guys.
The Stock Murano harness spliced into.
The Harness for the rear speakers.
The Harness for the fronts and ACC and Antenna.
This pic is very important. You need to send a signal to the antenna to turn it on. This shows the splice into the antenna at the stock harness, to my amp signal, which is spliced into the HU signal.
The ACC spliced.
And here's what it looks like underneath the stock radio. Now all it needs is an enclosure.
Closer look at the side.
This I just had to take a pic off. I had read in another post that the wire channel that ran past the front door was perfect for an amp power cable. Never would have thought it would have been seemingly made for one.

Radio install, wire runs and amp and sub install took about 4 hours. Well worth the sound:D :D :D
As a side not, I forgot to mention that my HU also has a motorized face plate. This would have been a mighty hurdle as well.
I truly hope that this is helpful to some. And I hope that I am not stepping on anyones feet. Especially be a newbie here. |
|
|
| SUPERDAVE |
| The Purpose of my install is to look stock as possible having 2 headunits in the dash would not be an option for me , being a pro installer myself |
|
|
| nem3 |
Thought I would be:rolleyes:
But either way, your install would not be possible with a motorized face plate. Well, it would be if you wanted to hack up the HU. |

Thats not fair, you have 2 navigation units and I dont have any.
Im telling. . .
Is that a whole new silver bezel thing? The cutout is square in yours but the "normal" one is odd shaped.
Nice Job though.
PS - What did you do with the AC? |
|
|
| ericnl |
i live in The Netherlands
The murano in Europe is a Little bit different from the USA one
the ac is the normal one and don't use the original display from the murano.
yes 2 navigation unitsnow i never got lost . |
|
|
| Eric L. |
| I guess that still leaves our North American MOs "SOL" for changing out the head unit while preserving the AC controls. Over here, the head unit and AC controls share the same circuit board I believe, so what people have been doing is mounting a separate head unit somewhere else on the dash while leaving the stock one in place. |

would it be possible to use the UK dash in the US murano?j
I know you can use a japanese dash for the g35, just wondering if the same could be done for these. |
