Leaky radiator - Click HERE for Original Thread
Jaquio
I have a habit of checking my temp gauge while driving, and never noticed anything wrong. I did a fluid flush & replace, and traveled from Los Angeles to Atlanta...(no problems). After a week in Atlanta, I notice what looks like coolant on the ground under my car. Pop the hood, and discover the reservoir is bone dry. I replace the coolant, but notices that the leak continues. This morning, I am driving to Dairy Queen (had a craving for a blizzard), and I notice the temp gauge was running pretty hot. I open all windows, and blast the heat to keep it from reaching the scary point. I check the reservoir......BONE DRY! I put more coolant in, but it still ran a lil hot. I let it cool down, and check under the car to see that the leak appeard to be comming from the radiator. Is there a temp fix for this until I get paid?

Do you know where on the radiator it appears to be leaking. There is a TSB for a defective radiator cap - is it leaking there?

Jaquio-

A few questions....

Did you have any temperature problems prior to the flush and fill?

Who performed the flush and fill?

Are you sure it is coolant (colored) and not a/c condensate (clear) on the ground?

The reason I ask these questions is because it is possible the flush and fill was not performed properly. If that is the case then you may be low on coolant and the engine is drawing from the reservoir as the engine cools.

Stop leak will really screw up your water pump and heater core, just say NO to stop leak.

JB weld can fix small leaks by draining it then jumpin out the over flow hose to a vacuum line. Apply warm JB weld and crank the engine a few seconds to pull the JB into the leak. Wait 24 hours or duck tape a hair drier in position for 4 hours.

Or, have radiator.com send you one for $146 (not including shipping) and replace it yourself. Not a big deal really, although you may want to get ur hands on a set of flare nut wrenches.

I have NEVER had a dealer replace a radiator, they are just too cheap to do it yourself. I had to replace my 454 dually's radiator, the warehouse said besides that truck, what it normally went on was a school bus. $350 for what chevy wanted $800 installed. It was way better than stock as well.

There's always the raw egg as tested on Myth-Busters. :2:

I used Barr's Stop-Leak on a high-mileage aluminum engine that had a warped head and it worked just fine... for about 1,000 miles, then I had to repeat the process, again, and again.

I read somewhere that Barr's Stop-Leak is standard equipment on some cars. Since I can not recall the source I certainly would not bet the ranch on it.

You indicated your MO recently underwent a "flush-n-fill". I suggest you make sure all hoses and fittings are secure. It is possible the mechanic may not have tightened all of the clamps and/or fittings.

Good luck.

Bingo!

When the cooling system is flushed thoroughly, sometimes there is a 'bubble' of air left in the system, preventing the complete refilling of the new coolant. The mech should have 'burped' the system to get rid of all the air trapped in it.

Of course, this assuming there are no leaks.....

Jaquio drove from LA to GA after the flush so I would rule out any "bubble Left in the system" theory. However, a loose hose connection somewhere is a good possibility.

Fill the radiator and the reservoir and look for location of the leak. You may get lucky and just have to tighten a clamp.

When you say you have the same problem as Jaquio do you mean the engine is leaking coolant or it is running hotter than usual, or both?

Did you recently have the coolant replaced?
