OK I need some input here as I think my web dev is out to get me.
For a long time not I've been using a cable modem with a Linksys router to a particular web site. For months its fine.
Recently when I connect to the web via the router I can't get to the web site that my developer created or POP server from that site. If I remove the router, use a different router or use a dial up connection I don't have any issues.
My first though was that my wev developes is screwing with me and blocking a specific MAC address on the router????
I've reset the router server times and this is the ONLY site I can't reach. IE status is "waiting for http://......" So it appears that it found it but doesn't load.
Any thoughts? |

I too had a Linksys router - and it gave me a fair bit of sporadic problems similar to what you described. Quite irritating!
It turns out there are many version of what appears to be the same "looking" blue Linksys router. If yours is the "Version 5" one (there is a V5 on the serial number tag on the bottom) then it is problematic. You can find out more by doing a web search on Linksys and Version 5. There are signficantly different electronics in this model versus others that appear to be the exact same. This particular one is well documented as a problem.
I bought a D-Link and all has been perfect ever since. |

| Thanks, I don't see any version information on my router... I'm guessing its v1 as they only have v1 and v2 and I've had mine for a while. I'll keep poking around. |

Go to http://www.linksysinfo.org/ and you will find lots detail on how to find the version information. If you do have an older version, the you can load another version of Linux as the OS on it, and get tons more features and increase power out of the unit (increased range).
If you have a wrt54g(and some others) there is more info here
Good Luck. |

| I have the Linksys wrt54g V5 and I am not aware of any problems. I have downloaded the newest firmware from Linksys so maybe that helps. |

Can you get your hands on another router, at least temporarily, to see if the problem is with this particular router?
Some routers have filtering capabilities. Could you (or someone else) have inadvertently turned on that feature? Check the advance settings tab in the router's config pages.
Good luck.

| If your concerned that the MAC is being blocked, you can go to the MAC address clone area of the linksys router and put in any MAC you like. Just don't do it if you have insight as a service provider. They register MACs. (don't want to kill your connection) |
