I bought a Murano 07, the S AWD model and the dealer told me that I can buy a GPS chipset from Best Buy and install it so I will have a GPS system on the screen that comes in the car and displays the radio and heat information. Any idea if that's possible because he was not sure 100%.
Thanks a lot for your help |

The dealer told you what?!?
This must be the same saleman who told me all MOs come with roof racks and that there was no alternator recall going on when I purchased my MO. He was wrong on both counts. If there is a GPS-enabling chipset for MOs available at Best Buy then that is one of the automotive world's best kept secrets.

What a bunch of BS... lol
You can install one system that I know of from Garmin (usually available on eBay) that will let you have the GPS functionality on your MO's monitor providing that you also install a little gizzmo to create inputs for the stock monitor.
Since the Garmin comes with a remote, when you power it on, the interface detects input and switches automatically between the current view (radio, climate info, etc...) to the GPS.
It works and is quite cheaper than the OEM.
The parts are:
* Garmin GVN 52
* VCI-NIS/AV
* And if you wish to get the sound into your Bose (if you do have the Bose), you need a mute interface that will temporarily deactivate the radio sound when the GPS is speaking and output the instructions throught the Bose system. There are devices that will also work with other sound system than the Bose.
All in all it's certainly close to a $1000 expense just for the parts. |

Thank you for this information.
You think this is available at Best Buy so they can install it for me?
I don't like to buy these things on eBay and get stuck with them if they don't work. |

fadsnet-
Is it worth $1,000+ to you to have the GPS display on the MO's screen? If you have money to burn then that is fine. If not, then you can purchase a high-quality GPS at Best Buy for half that and be able to take it from car to car.
As a side note.... The next time you see that dealer please let him know he was wrong. I would hate to see him spread that same erroneous information to others.

Thank you for participating in this thread but I think you don't have anything to say except than accusing your dealer of being ignorant... It's known that some salesmen don't know 100% and as for recalls they come after manufacturing the car not before or there will be no recalls at all...
And as for the chipset, it's right there is one but not specifically for
MOs, you can read this in the links "SIM" gave and my dealer was ready to go with me to best buy to help me buy it but I wanted to make sure before.
Anyway thanks for your replies and 10000000 thanks for SIM for his information. |

fadsnet -
Let's see if I understand you correctly...
You claim I did not contribute anything to this thread other than accusing my dealer of being ignorant, is that correct? Did I not write in my first post that there was no GPS-enabling chip set for the MO? Was I not correct? Is it not true that your dealer was ignorant of the facts by claiming there was? Those are the only two points I was trying to convey.
You defend your dealer by saying there is a chipset "but not specifically for MOs". :8: Isn't that just another way of saying there is no GPS-enabling chipset for the MO?
As far as the recall goes, when I was looking to buy my MO I was aware of the recall because the official announcement was already reported on this thread, yet my salesman claimed it was only a rumor. This is the type of information that any good saleman should know.
I strive to post accurate information and be as helpful as I can on this forum. I am not always right and will admit when I am wrong. If you don't believe I am being helpful, that is your prerogative. For me, I can simply add you to my ignore list and continue to help others.

I still like you NJ. I must agree with you that I would rather not be lied to when I am about to make a $30,000 purchase. Thats just my opinion though. I wouldn't want to speak for others because I might misrepresent them. |

you are kidding, are you? Accusing Joe?
I would advise you to read a few more posts before you start making statements like this. With 4 post count number I do not think you appreciate Joe's contribution.
So please think before you post.... |

To be fair, njjoe is certainly one of the most helpful member on this forum, especially since the old gang (Homer, Jaak, ...) are now too busy rubbing their arthritis. :2:
njjoe is right. Dealers have the reputation of most salespeople. They usually would say anything to get their products sold and then adjust their speech according to the truth that you usually report back to them.
fadsnet, I don't know if these are available from Bestbuy but both PAC and Garmin have a strict reseller policy especially regarding the warranty so you should look on their site to find out who is an authorized dealer. As far as the audio mute device is concerned, contact me if you have the Bose and I will tell you where to get one.
And keep us posted on the results if you decide to go ahead with this project. |

First of all.. Thanks for SIM and njjoe for their contributions...
Has anyone ever used the VCI-NIS device? I noticed that it has a 8 pin connector for the RGB.
My 06 MO has the center console DVD, no Nav - and although I know putting an external nav on the screen isn't cost-worthy, I would really like to put video on the front screen. The OEM DVD system uses a very similar 8 pin connector going to the screen in the console.
Does anyone know if the two are compatible? I have found zero info on 8 pin RGB connectors.
Thanks in advance.... and Hey!.....Lets be careful out there... |
