Adding Camera to '05? - Click HERE for Original Thread

I am getting my "new" used 2005 Murano SL on Saturday... It had everything I was looking for in a used Mo, except a rear-view camera. My husband said we could find a way to add one.. so here goes:
Back in January, while at a Nissan dealer, I asked if a camera could be added to one that didn't have one. They told me it could, but it would void the warranty. Does anyone agree or disagree with this statement?
Secondly, I saw that there has been some discussions on this and also on changing to a color screen, which in 2005, was only available with Nav.. what is the final conclusion on this?
Finally, even though it's not really what I want, is it best just to get one of those little aftermarket camera's that go on the side of your rear view mirror?
Any thoughts would be helpfully. Can't wait for my new Mo! Been looking since October!

First of all... Congrats on your soon-to-be, almost-new MO!! It's a great car; you'll love it.

I would not think the addition of the back-up camera system would void the warranty if the dealer performed the upgrade. However, the upgrade is no simple matter on an orange-screen MO. Installing the camera in the rear hatch is the easy part. The hard part is converting the LED screen to a video-capable screen. It is not a simple drop-in replacement.

You have to ask yourself if it is really worth the cost. My guess is it would be in excess of a grand.

Another forum member, I think it was GripperDon, talked about a $99 back-up camera that came with a separate 2 or 3" screen that was easy to install. That may be a more viable option.

Thanks for the reply! I was dead set on having a camera, but I would really be stupid to pass this one up because it doesn't have one. I think that probably the best option is driving it for a while, see how I feel about things, possibly trying one of those little ones that you can get at Costco, and seeing what happens. I just worry about my neighbors kids. After searching the forum, for my answer, I have noticed that a lot of MO owners would love an easy way to add one. Too bad that it's just not that easy!

If you are really dead-set on getting the back-up camera then go for it. For $100 you can't go wrong. Walmart sells a wireless version (VR3 VRBCS300W Wireless Back-up Camera) for under $100. This link will take you to a CNET review of the camera: Click Here

The back-up camera is a nice safety feature but it isn't perfect. It has a very limited view of vision. While it clearly displays what is directly behind your MO, it does not show what may be coming from the sides. Drivers should still turn around and look behind them.

Enjoy the ride!
