hi,
What type of gas do for you guys suggest for MO. can I used E865. |

You might want to search the forum - there are hundreds of post on the recommended fuel for the Murano.
Short answer: for maximum performance use premium. Using regular will not harm your engine. The MO is not designed for E85. All of this is in your owners manual. |

According to a survey of 160 forum members, 52% use Premium, 16% use Mid-grade, 23% use Regular, and the rest vary the grade.
The survey and thread can be found here: Which gas do you use?
E865? Is that a new formulation? If you mean E85, then don't even consider it. The MO's engine is not designed for it and the resulting damage will not be covered by the warranty. It's all in the Owner's Manual.

this was the first time I saw E85 in gas station and I asked the owner if I can use it and she said yes. I just put 5 gal. After I saw your reply I put another 10 gal of premium.
What should I do now. is it ganna damage my engine? |

As far as I know, if you end up getting a misfire due to wrong fuel, you'll definitely know it. If the engine ran fine, I wouldn't worry about it.
The synthetic rubber seals and o-rings along your fuel system are more likely to be damaged than the engine itself. If it was only 5 gallons, I wouldn't worry about it.
I hope this is the LAST time you listen to what the person at the gas station says. Trust in Nissanmurano.org! ;) |

Zinc, brass, lead, aluminum, polyurethane, and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) are sensitive to high-blend alcohol fuels. These materials are often used in the fuel system of cars. E85 can cause components made from these material to fail if exposed to E85 for a period of time.
Adding the additional 10 gallons of Premium was a smart thing to do. E85 is a blend of 85% ethanol (alcohol) and 15% gasoline. By adding the additional 10 gallons of gasoline to the initial 5 gallons of E85 you reduced the ethanol content to approximately 28%. Assuming you had at least 5 gallons of gas in the tank to begin with, the ethanol content in your tank is now in the neighborhood of 21%. Nissan recommends a maximum of 10%.
I suggest driving the car like normal and filling up the tank with gasoline as soon as the guage reads 1/2 to dilute the ethanol even further (~10%).

I am not a mechanic, nor am I familiar with E85 - but this is what I would do for what it is worth. It might be overkill but your Mo is a investment worth the care.
I would siphon out what I could (dispose in an safe manner of course) and fill up with premium to dilute whatever remains even further. I would then go on a short road trip and run a few gallons through the system to help 'flush' out any residual that might be in the plumbing. |

If Nissan recommends 5% you wouldn't be able to drive a Nissan in NY (not sure about NJ) as in NY normal gas (regular and premium) contains 10% Ethanol. Should we get worried? |

| I think its actually 10%. As far as I know, the majority of unleaded fuels in the US have up to 10% ethanol as an oxygenate. No it will not harm the MO to use that type of fuel (E10). |

Good point. Eric L. is correct when he states the maximum permissible amount of ethanol is 10%. I have corrected the data in my earlier post. The 5% limit refers to methanol, not ethanol. Sorry for that.
