When it rains, it pours.... - Click HERE for Original Thread

INSIDE MY CAR! I have had a leak for a few months now that I haven't been able to track down which soaks my floor whenever it rains. Last night, however, a new and exciting development began. It seems as though the leak (which seems like it may be coming down the a pillar) is running directly into the BCM which in turn causes my front windows to roll down all on their own! I came out to my car this morning to find both windows all the way down after it had been POURING rain all night. Fantastic. The only way that I have found to keep the windows up is to pull the fuse under the hood that controls the windows and door locks. Unfortunately, it also controls the wipers and the ABS, so I have to pull it when I park and put it back in when I want to leave again. I don't know if there is a sunroof drain line coming down the a pillar that I may have pinched or cut the last time I took the trim off, and the dealer had no clue what could be causing the leak so I guess I will start pulling things off tomorrow and see what I can find. The real bummer is that I am out of town, staying in a hotel and it is still raining outside. Anyway, if anybody has any suggestions for me, I would greatly appreciate them. Thanks for listening.

I agree with Grip - its probably a plugged sunroof drain. Another area could be along the windshield seals.

Well, I went outside a few minutes ago and pulled the a pillar trim so I can now see the drain line. A likely place for the leak seems to be the point where the line goes into the fire wall. It has stopped raining for the moment, so hopefully I will get a chance to get this figured out today. I will keep everyone posted.

Are you sure it was the damp BCM that caused the front windows to roll down, or could it have been that someone inadvertently activated the remote?

I haven't used the Nissan remote since I bought the car (aftermarket remote start that is not connected to the windows)so I am sure that the windows could not have been activated that way. Also, as soon as I shut the car off, the front windows roll down immediately. I just ran a few cups of water thru the sunroof drain, and it is definately draining into the car. Does anyone know exactly how that tube connects/passes thru the firewall? I will try and take the fender liner off as soon as the weather is good to see if that presents a solution. You can see the water run down the inside of the fender (inside by the firewall) as soon as it enters the tube. If I can fix the leak, the electrical problems will hopefully be next.

::begin rant::

Reason #312 why I will never own another sunroof.

Most of my cars have had them, I never used them, they took up valuable headroom, and many of them leaked.

I had one that got stuck in the "open" position, it cost me $85 to have it permanently closed.

Of course, your experiences may vary.

I might invest in a cheapy car cover until you get this sorted out. At least your Mo would be dry even if the windows did come down somehow on their own. Just a temporary inconvenience until the problem is found and solved.

Is your Mo still under warranty??? If so, let Nissan find the problem while they give you a comparible replacement vehicle. You should not have to do all this yourself. :1zhelp:

OK, part one is taken care of. I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but I will attempt to explain how to find/fix the sunroof drain leak. The hose that runs down the a pillar connects to a plastic barbed fitting just below the windshield. You can see it if you remove the a pillar trim and follow the tube down to the firewall. The hose is pushed onto the plastic fitting which is pushed into a rubber bushing that goes thru the firewall. My hose was not quite pushed all the way onto the fitting, and the rubber seal around the fitting had a bit of a kink in it which, together, caused a substantial leak. I can't swear that I didn't cause this myself when I tapped power for my radar detector, so I really can't try and blame this on Nissan. The whole connection is very simple, it is just hard to get at from below and impossible to get at from above. Unfortunately, my car is no longer under warranty, so all of this falls on me. Having gotten the leak fixed, I guess my next stop is to the dealer to try and fix the electrical problem. The BCM's location under/behind the radio would prevent it from becoming wet directly, so unless the door switch is bad, I think I will get my money's worth having the dealer chase this one down. As far as keeping the car dry for now goes, pulling the fuse under the hood when I park the car stops the windows and locks from working at all, so I am OK for the time being.

My BCM failed under warranty and when they replaced it I watched them install the new one. It is located directly above the pedals, or right below the steering wheel. Hope this helps with your situation.

Well, I thought I had this licked, but I was wrong. Upon leaving to go to work this morning, I looked outside and there was about 2 inches of snow INSIDE THE CAR! What a great way to start out the morning. I shoveled the car out and got through the day and upon checking TSB's when I got back to the hotel, I discovered that this exact problem was illustrated in an 03 bulletin. The morons at at dealer I took the car to last week refused to work on it because I had an aftermarket alarm, and all they needed to do was check the TSB's. I guess after I drive home tomorrow (23 hr drive) I will try and perform the TSB mys

Just when I think it might be ok, some ignorant moron blows it. Anyhow,I will let everyone know how this turns out.
