Lift gate height - Click HERE for Original Thread

We just purchased a new 2007 Murano. So far we love the car, but (I'm embarrased to admit) when we got home we found that we can't open the rear lift gate in the garage because it will hit the track for the garage door.

Is there any way to limit how heigh the hatch opens?

If not any suggestions on how to deal with the situation?

Thanks,

Michael

I essentially have the same problem. The garage door, when open, is a few inches too low. About 6", I believe.

My solution is to BACK into the garage, which puts the lift gate past the garage door and opens all the way fine. This works perfectly for me, because I like to back into the garage anyway. With my garage/driveway, it's much easier to back in than it is to back out.

But that probably doesn't help you.

I would suggest attaching some dense foam blocks or something to your garage doors or rails, wherever your lift gate could hit something. That would at least make sure you don't damage anything. Watch your head, though, because it means that your lift gate is not up all the way and is probably right at forehead level! :1pat:

Depending on your installation, you could affix a piece of carpeted wood to the ceiling parallel to the opener tracks. The bottom surface of the wood should drop down below the tracks but be high enough to clear the door when it is opening. Now when you open the lift-gate it will hit the carpeted surface of the wood and not the metal track.

My moms old car had this problem and we went out and bought that sticky foamy tape. It is like a rubbery foam that is about 1/2" thick and sticky on one side. We then applied it to the garage door where contact could be made. Just make sure to ease the liftgate up so it doesnt bang against the garage door, just to be safe.
