| i have been wanting to install a new alpine headunit in my car, and i want to know if they have made a dash kit for the muranos yet? |

| Don't believe so, looks as though you will need to fabricate your own or install an aftermarket head unit in another location (glovebox, under the seat, in center console under the oem player) |

| There is no way to use an aftermarket head unit in the stock CD player location, unless you make a harness and connect a removable faceplate somewhere else. |

Unless scosche or another company makes a kit like the ford Taures, where they replace the whole dash to include the additional buttons.
Which btw, I have a post on here to get people to call them and ask to make one.
Scosche dash kit |

What do you mean about the faceplate. Putting a aftermarket deck in the stock place wouldn't be hard, remove the stereo, make a block off plate, cut out a rectangle for the aftermarket deck, rig up the sleeve so it is stable, and WALLAH! Wiring is simple, cut, solder, tape. Just because there isn't a plug and play kit doesn't mean it can't be done with a little creative thinking. |

Well, it's not as simple as that - people have discussed this in the forums and you can also find photos of what people have done to theirs, but you have to remeber:
the buttons on the face plate of the Murano connect to the LCD above the dash. :(
By removing the face plate as it is now, you would be rendering the LCD useless and also are disconnecting all the other functions that are connected to the LCD in that face plate, such as in my 07 Murano, the Stereo connections, the climate control connections and the other maintenance-type connections such as the Tire Pressure Monitor.
If you can figure out a whole new face plate with an Alpine unit in there but can still make the buttons and the LCD function properly, let me know - cos I miss my Alpine I had in my last car and I would also like to add an extra subwoofer with its own control too. |

| Ok you can make an extension cable for a removable faceplate and put the cd player behind the stock faceplate, like this: |

| This is the reason you can't just cut a hole in the stock faceplate: |

Man that looks screwy. :(
However -
I would pay someone to do up my Mo. What I want is what everybody wants - to remove the stock dash kit & wiring, and custom fit a whole new stereo (without cassette, of course!) , but re-programme and re-design the buttons with new wiring to still be able to work the stock LCD above for the car information, and also use that stock LCD as the DVD play-back! :D
That's the dream we all want, right?
If money was not an object, I am sure someone smart out there could do one right.
So how much you want for the job? :2:
I'm serious. |

What you mean "we ALL", Kimo Sabe?
Sorry, but not ALL MO owners share your desire... |

Maybe not "all" would want to, but to at least have the choice to decide if you do or not - I would say "most" would want that. |

| I'm going throw this idea out there that I've been thinking about for a few months. I am the owner of a 2004 Nissan Maxima as well as a 2004 Nissan Murano. I'd say the interiors are very similar. All the controls and such are pretty much the same, with the exception of the temperature control being buttons in the Maxima while dials in the Murano. There is a dash kit for the Maxima since the controls are apparently separate from the factory stereo. I'm wondering if we can rip the temperature controls off the Maxima and just make an entirely new face plate area on the Murano. We'd be able to get rid of the board that has been holding us up completely. |

Here is a pic of a highly modified Maxima dash kit.

You can see how the cluster at the very top is for the CD player and navigation buttons.
See the temperature controls?
P.S. This person has relocated his information screen into the pocket below too. |

| Maxima part is 27500-7Y010 for HVAC controls. $260 from ABC Nissan. I need to see what the connectors look like in comparison to the Murano. |

That mod is SWEET! Wish that were a reasonably priced option! These manufacturers need to make the stereo systems & controls standard interfaces (electroniclly) so we can enhance our systems using aftermarket items... plus, they'd even benefit by being able to provide upgrades themselves! |

I'll post some pics of the connector for the ac unit when I that my dash apart this weekend to upgrade my head unit to a BT compatable unit |

SUPERDAVE,
I have to ask you, since you are one of the few people that has done a dash mod.
If you were to do it all over again, what would you have done differently?

I was wondering if it would be possible to use the UK dash in the US murano?
I know you can use a japanese dash for the g35, just wondering if the same could be done for these.
This guy has an aftermarket unit in his murano.. in the UK.. check it out..
