I'm planning on buying a 2007 SL within a week or so, as soon as I get the insurance settlement check from my previous car, which was totaled in an accident last week. No one was injured, thank goodness. Gone is my beautiful 1999 BMW 323i, the best car I've ever owned. One of it's best features was that it was paid for.:(
I test drove a Murano this week, and was very impressed with the way it drove, rode, and handled. I especially liked the firm seat-of-the-pants feel, and crisp handling, reminiscent of my BMW.
I compared it with the BMW X3 and X5, both of which are nice cars, but too expensive, US$45K and US$60K, respectively, which compare very favorably with the US$37K Murano pricetag. Looking at reliability issues, BMW is going through a lot of electrical problems with most of their current models.
Nissan's customer philosophy at the time of original purchase is also much simpler, more straightforward, and perhaps even more honest than BMW's. When I go to each company's website and use the build feature to dress the cars, Nissan has very few options, all arranged into neat packages. A couple of clicks here and there and you've built the car as you like it. BMW has more of an ala carte approach, not very well laid out. By the time I finished building the car I felt like I'd been raped. They have a couple of packages, but nickle-and-dime you for everything else.
Anyway I've decided on this Murano:
2007 SL
Merlot or Chardonnay
Cafe Latte Leather
Wood Trim
Touring Package w/XM Satellite Radio
Floor Mats
Splash Guards
Cargo Area Protector
Is there anything else you think I should add? |

Did you go to the NissanUsa site to build the car? If so, you'll be paying exactly what Nissan and the dealer want you to pay.
Try Edmunds.com. After you input the options, etc. you'll be presented with a screen that shows Msrp, Invoice, and What others are paying. I targeted the Invoice price and dealt with an internet salesperson and got the price I wanted. |

Yes, I did go to the Nissan web site to build the car. And I understand that the price quoted there is full retail. I used to sell cars and I know all the games they play. And I've looked at Edmunds and KBB, so have a good idea of what the invoice cost is.
At this point I'm not worried or concerned about the negotiations. As I said, I know all their tricks and will use them to hold their feet to the fire. What I was hoping for was input from those more familiar with the Murano regarding if I should add any other options to the car than those I listed. |

| O. I guess only if you drive in snow in the winter, you might want to try the AWD with VDC on it. Works well enough, but you'd have to be the judge of that. |

Thanks. I wondered about the VDC. None of the cars at the dealerships here seem to have it (San Francisco Bay Area). I guess I now know why.
What about the sunroof wind deflector? I've never had one on any of the sunroof cars I've had. Is it worth the price? How does it fit around the little antenna? |

Onarium,
I would go for VDC. This is important safety feature. You get a lot of rain in the SF area so it is even more important you get the VDC.
Just my 2c.... |

Thanks. I went back to the Nissan web site and tried to build another SL with the VDC. For some reason it requires the addition of the navigation package. WTF? |

You may or may not find that unless you special order one the dealers seem to have SLs on thier lots with the Premium Package already in there.
I'm very happy w/ my SL, Premium, Touring (2wd) It had the sunroof deflector and I took it off and put it in the closet w/ the cargo cover after a couple of months. Some complain about the Bose system but for the life of me I can't figure out why. I don't think 4wd does anything for those of us in temperate climates on a vehicle like this.
Good luck w/ your search :) |

Thanks. Checking local dealer's inventories using the Nissan web site, most of the SLs have the Touring Package already installed. I've been able to find a couple of cars with VDC, but not in the colors I want.
Experimenting the the car builder at the Nissan web site, the wood trim option gets in the way of VDC and also the Touring Package with XM satellite radio. Is there some dashboard configuration for the VDC or XM that would prevent the wood trim from fitting? |

| def. go w/ VDC and NAV. you will regret it later (i think) You should be able to get all you want in an AWD SL, tour, VDC, w/ nav for around $34k +++ or around $37 OTD (out the door-all taxes/fees incl). www.carsdirect.com is also a great site to consider while doing homework. I think nissan is offering $1k rebate on the murano too. |

What's your obsession with the wood trimming? :2:
I think this car looks silly with the wood trimming. Makes it look like an older person's car.
But that's just my personal taste. If you're thinking that the wood trim would make it feel like a more expensive car, well, that's up to you.
Here's one thing you should fight over, cos I did - fight for 100,000 Mile, 72 month warranty to be included in the price. That's Nissan's Plus warranty. Do not budge on this. Squeeze them as much as you can for all the options you want on it, but make sure you ask for this to be included in the price. Tell them that if they don't, you're walking out of there and going to Subaru.

I personally don't care about the wood trim, but my wife likes it. I get the XM radio, and she gets the trim. It's a small price to pay for keeping her happy. ;) Thanks for reminding me about the extended warranty. They won't know what hit 'em. They'll sell me the car at my price just to get rid of me. |

| WOW you sound like me! I just sold my 2002 BMW 325i and bought (yesterday) my 07 SL AWD with touring package. It came with splash guards, roof rack, floor mats, cargo cover, XM pre-wiring (I will use this feature for my ipod). I fell in love with this car when I drove it and am glad I decided to buy it. Definatly go to edmunds for the pricing, I actually got it for $300 under invoice without the 1k rebate, I took the 4.9% instead. I did get the extended warranty also and the 33 oil changes (comes out to be $19/oil change) but I think every dealership has different options when it comes to the oil changes, some do not even offer it. Doesn't hurt to ask though =) |

Nicci- enjoy your new Murano.
Interesting to hear people going from the BMW 3 series to the Murano. Going from the "drivers car" to the Mo.
I've always said the overall steering feel/road handling of the Mo was one of its best attributes. But what do I know? |

No, it certainly doesn't hurt to ask. And everything is negotiable. The only reason I'm giving up my BMW 323i is because it got totaled, otherwise I'd be driving it for another 100K miles. The 07 SL AWD Murano, while not as tight as the BMW, is still a very impressive ride, and significantly less expensive than another BMW 3 series. |

Best of luck with you decision, I am telling you, I know losing your BMW is hard, luckly mine is being sold to a family member so I still get the visitation rights haha
This car is by far the best decision I made yet! |

The insurance company finally called yesterday to give me official notice than my BMW was totaled, and also how much the settlement check would be for. So yesterday I went to my Nissan dealer and left with my new 2007 Murano SL AWD. I got only the Touring Package, with floor mats, cargo area protector, and sunroof wind deflector. The color is Chardonnay. I'll buy and install the splash guards and XM radio myself later.
Not only did I get the exact price I wanted, but also the 3.9 percent financing. To cut straight to the chase, I dealt only with the sales manager, not with a salesperson.
Planned mods:
XM radio
Splash guards
Upper and lower billet grilles |

The only persons at a dealership I might have any sympathy for are the front line sales people. I used to sell cars, and it's a tough job, truly caught between the proverbial rock and hard place. But it's open season as far as I'm concerned on the sales manager. I'm cordial, but straight to the point. If he doesn't want to play straight I'll go someplace else. In this case, the sales manager was a very nice guy and didn't try to play any games.
The sales manager is the only one at the dealership who can factor dealer holdback and dealer advertising into the negotiations, as well as other manufacturer incentives that influence the dealership's bottom line. The front line sales person gets a percentage of the difference between invoice plus "pack" and the MSRP, regardless of manufacturer to dealer financial arrangements.
So I bypass the sales staff and go directly to the sales manager and tell him what I want, also making him understand that we're both businessmen without a lot of time to mess around, and it's in the best interest of both of us to come quickly to an agreement in which we can both derive benefit. Only the slimiest of sales managers wouldn't agree to this approach. |

I'm looking to buy a new 2007 Murano SL w/ Touring & navi... They didn't have the color we wanted on the lot, but the salesman is trying to find it (either silver or plat with black interior). Apparently it's very difficult to find a black leather interior with the navi unit around here... and we have 10 dealerships within a 50 mile radius! No one has the combo we want if you can believe it.
anyway, comparable vehicles with the other colors run $36,600 msrp, but I get a nissan partner price that's 1% below invoice. The salesman won't give me a hard number for whatever reason, but due to my estimations it'll be around $33,200 ($35,750 after tt&l).
I'm waiting to hear back from them as well if they'll do $4k on my trade-in instead of their quoted $3k. I let them know that once I got back from my break I'd check and see if the sales manager agreed to it... and if he had then I'd come in with my downpayment and we'd buy the color we wanted. |

| i purchased the 2007 mo last month for $32900. this is the sl with the vdc. The price is what the sales guy gave me right off the bat. I'm not that great with negotiations so I'm sure you can get it lower if they are willing to sell it to me for this price. |

I went to the Internet and gave the Fleet manager a price on 2 that I wanted . I live in Texas and the 2 I found were in California and New Jersey. He quickly came up with one that had what I wanted.
Ask for what you want.
2007 SL , Leather package , 75, 000 warranty-- 32,500 after 1000 rebate and 2.9% for 4 years. |

Looks like they're bringing in the MO we want from Dallas... should be here today. My VPP negotiated rate for the car was $33,800 (MSRP of $37,080) which is what I expected, and after TT&L my cost is $35,875. I did a trade-in plus downpayment on the 0.7% for 3 years deal... $764/mo.
Oh... the details are SL, silver ext with black int, touring, navi, and other options. |
