I installed the Nissan OEM trailer wiring harness and it seems weird. I took back the first module I got, because the lights seem off. I hooked it up to my boat and it seems like the harness always outputs a brake light (maybe a daytime running light thing). The turn signals work fine, but the brake lights are always on. When I hit the brakes, the brake lights dim on the trailer and the lower running lights come on. I will try it on another boat this weekend, but this boat works fine with my roommate's truck and my Dad's truck. Does the Nissan module always run the running lights when connected to a trailer? Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

The lights should work as they did before the harness. I think the harness is different if you have the LED tail lights. I have a 2005 SE and the harness is #999t8-cp000. I hope the harness works for me.

I installed the Nissan Trailer harness today and it works fine. It requires that you remove some interior panels and the rear floor and the cargo boxes. You connect the harness to a white power connector, to a converter which has overload protection, and to the tail light harness on both sides. A 30 amp fuse for the tow harness is located next to the battery. Instead of mounting the trailer harness to the hitch, I installed it in the spare tire well which makes for a neat and simple intallation. The harness was built for the Nissan OEM hitch and made to attach to it. I have a Uhaul Valley round tube hitch which I like very much and think the car actually looks better with the hitch which hides the muffler and gives the car a different look. The hitch was $139 and the harness was $99. Now I just need to buy a $4 flat 4 wire trailer harness to connect the harness in the tire well to a trailer, running the wire under the tailgate.

Yep, I used the modulite converter and keep my harness in the spare tire well. It's about 4 feet long so I don't need an extension.
You may find what you need at either a boat place or Ace. |

Here is a picture of my Valley hitch that I bought at Uhaul for $139.

The Nissan OEM trailer hitch harness was designed for the trailer plug to be installed on the hitch but I chose to attach the plug inside the spare tire area. I used the external cable that came with the harness except instead of routing it thru the floor and attaching it to the hitch, I mounted the end of the cable to the floor of the tire well area.

View of hitch with hitch ball attached. The hitch is about 14.5 inches above ground. The receiver ball mount can be inserted to be either 15.5" or 12" above ground. I chose the 15.5" which makes the top of the ball about 18" above ground.
