Squeeky Brakes on NEW MO - Click HERE for Original Thread
Nicci831
Hello All! I just got my MO about 1.5 weeks ago and it has about 350 miles on it, I got it with 17 miles. I noticed there is a light sqeek when I press on the brakes, not all the times but usually after I just start the car and get going and only when I press lightly.....is there some time need for the brakes to wear in or should I take to the dealership ASAP? I also noticed when I coast downhill, the MO seems to shift into a lower gear to slow the car down....is this normal on the Mo's? I know on my other cars when I coast downhill, it speeds up....

Thanks for your help!

Welcome to the Mo family.

I think you're experiencing brake pad vibration which is normal under a light brake pedal application. This can cause a squeak/squeal and is normal. Just apply a tad more pressure to avoid it.

The coasting situation is normal too; that's the torque converter unlocking. All auto trans do that to one degree or another.

Nicci831-

The brake problem may clear itself up once the brakes are fully bedded-in. However, if you still have the noise after a month or so I would have the dealer take at look at it.

When the MO is coasting downhill the CVT will "shift" into a lower gear to prevent the MO from speeding up. That is normal. The engine brain will also shut off the fuel supply to the injectors to further assist the engine-braking.

Contrary to what Lightninrod stated, it is not the TQ unlocking. That only occurs when the MO is coasting to a stop.

Thank you both for the information =) There is some adjusting to the CVT, I love it but am used to the normal shift on a car =)
the brakes only seem to squeek when making turns to the left and applying light pressure, also when I am backing out of the garage. If it keeps up I will contact the dealership =)
Thanks again!

Would a sticking caliper cause a squeeking noise also?

My '07 MO has been squeaking a but too recently. Almost everytime I'm backing up and hit the brakes lightly I get that "eeeeeekkkkkkkk".. Embarrassing as hell for a new car. She just went over 3K km... so I think the brakes are broke in. I'm going to stop by the dealer after work today for my one month check up and let them know this isn't acceptable.

Huda, what your describing was a TSB back a long, long time ago for my '03.
The fix got me new brakes a couple years into ownership & just recently I had to have new rears again.
You might want to mention that TSB to your dealer, do a search there was a monster thread on that subject.

I called the dealership and they said something about moisture but if it continues to bring it in....I guess that is what they all say......

jmeitz-

This problem has been reported by several members. No amount of oil, WD-40, or cursing will get rid of your squeak. The only proven solution is the replacement of the pedal assembly. It looks like you need to get motivated and take it to the dealer.
