| MY wife took her 07 Murano to the dealer today for its first service. The service person there told her to make sure that you don't keep the smart key near the cell phone. In other words, not in the same pocket, the same purse compartment, etc. No real explanation why, just don't do it. She's not the inquisitive type like me. |

Sounds like typical dealer BS to me.

| Maybe you should call the dealer and ask them. That is an important point. Does a cellphone cause problems with the fob?? |

| i've heard this on the g35 forum. apparantly the newer intelli keys are suceptable to the waves from cell phones and could erase the encoding in the key. you won't be able to enter the car with the fob afterwards. |

I have a Blackberry from work and if I set it to charge too close to my notebook at work it will lock up the notebook. And just as bad, get the BB near an amplified speaker and you will get a buzz every few minutes when the BB it trying to sync the email. It's a royal pain. I have a personal Treo (different carrier) and I have never had these kind of problems.
So I would not be surprised it caused a problem. Matter of fact often when I get in the MO with my phone on my belt, I have to move the Intellikey in my pocket to register so I can start the car. |

If is most likely that the BB is on a GSM network (T-Mobile) and the Treo is on a CDMA network (Verizon). GSM network phones make speakers crackle when recieving a phone call or message or email and such.
Not sure why phones would effect intelli keys though. |

Good guess, you are correct BB is GSM (cingular/at&t) and Treo CDMA (Sprint)...
As far as reason, harmonics or spurious rf emissions based on my knowledge of RF.

RIM's Blackberry Buzz explanation
Unfortunately, this "buzzing" is a characteristic that is unavoidable on any mobile phone that operates in the GSM 850/1900 MHz range (not just BlackBerry, but all other phones also).
Essentially, whenever the phone transmits or receives on the 850/1900 MHz band any nearby speakers are "excited" and there is an audible buzzing.
The only suggestion I have to reduce the annoying buzz, is to keep the BlackBerry handset away from any speakers (or any wires leading to speakers). So when you set it down on your desk, try putting it as far away from the speaker as needed (or you can turn off the speakers when they aren't needed).
This is a trait of the GSM design and not specific to BlackBerry.<<

That would be my guess, although this is the first I'm hearing of it and I'm sure it would be in a manual somewhere... so I agree, it's probably BS.
I was reading through the Murano manual last night (I believe it was the 'intelligent key' section), and it said not to keep your intelligent key and cell phone close to each other. The wording was 'in the same pocket' or something like that.
Sorry - don't have my manual with me to check the exact wording. |

| Here is what the Manuals states.... |

| Nissan has a notice about it with regard to their new Maximas and Altimas so this wouldn't surprise me (in the dealership they have a written warning that they're aware of it and Nissan is "fixing" it). |

| Yup. My I-Key on my G35 went, leaving the wife and child stranded. The only solution was to go home and get the other (luckily we were all pretty close together). Infiniti has sent out notices to all 2007 G35 drivers. The letter says they'll have replacement fobs late summer. |
