I'm about to purchase a new 2007 SL w/ touring and navi, but I wanted to see what people paid for their extended warranties. From what I can tell, I'll probably go for the silver warranty, but wasn't sure what the cost differences would be.
Does anyone have good information on those costs and what is actually best? |

Depending on the dealer, they will try to milk you on the price regardless of the warranty you choose.
My advice is to fist go to Nissan website and read the coverages, and the exclusions for each one of the warranty types. I receommend Gold Prefered because it covers the most. Silver basically covers your drive train only!
Second, determine if you want long term warranty, high mileage warranty, or both. What I mean is that if you drive 10k a year, you probably want to go with a 7 year, 75k mile warranty because you will never get to 100k. If you drive 30k a year, then a three year 100k warranty is prefered because you will never get to 7 year. Calculate the best combination for you.
Third, You don't have to buy the extended warranty when you buy the car. That is when you end up getting the one that is expensive and not necessarily the right one for you. You can buy the extended warranty as long as the OEM warranty is in effect. That is 3 years or 36k miles. So take your time. Call or e-mail as many dealers as you can, even those that are accross the country, and shop for it. You will be amazed at the price variation.
I have seen people buy Gold Preferred for as little as $1,000, and Silver for $1,500!!! So shop around. |

It's funny how much of misinformation there is being disseminated by the dealers. I was told I could only get the extended warranty until the first 30 days (mine is a lease). Is that true or can I too shop around and add whenever, as long as I'm in the warranty period?
TIA. |

| Why on earth would you ever want an extended warranty on a lease? |

oh lol
we havent decided if we want to buy this car yet .... also I am petrified about the 3 month gap towards the end where the car will not be under a warranty mainly due to it being the CVT....I had an infiniti before this so I am partial to nissans and know they last a lifetime if taken care of, but Murphy's law is big in my life...:D
would appreciate your/other's thoughts on this... |
