Paint code - Click HERE for Original Thread

Does anyone know the paint code for the lower center part of a back bumper. I have few deep scratched from parking in NYC and would like to fix them.
My MO is silver (KY0 I think) but the center part of the bumper is kind of dark platinum. I asked the dealer - he referred me to the door sticker...
Helpless, as usual...

Contact your local body shop; they'll know the code.

The door sticker has the paint code... just take a look. That is all the body shop will do to determine your code.

I looked and only found KY0 long before i asked the dealer, but this is the 95% of the paint on the car,but the bumper has a second tone and that is not KY0.... Am i missing something? Should the sticker have 2 codes?

There is a "TRIM" code adjacent to the color code (mine is "G"), however I am unsure exactly what it refers to.

I still believe your best bet is to contact a body shop.

I did. They offered to repaint the entire bumper but they do not have sell the original paint. I really want to go with NISSAN paint and do not want to repaint the entire bumper because of a few 1-2" long scratches...

Okay, how about this? Trek on over to your local auto parts store, pick up two or three small paint jars that look close to the OEM color, and test them out in an inconspicuous location. Hopefully one will be a close enough match. It may work.

i thought that the two-tone back bumper color is standard and would exist in a OEM touch-up tubes. I looked everywhere, does not seem to be the case. Anyone had this issue??

The best advice so far for this thread. The body shop will know the code.

ok, i'm not 100% but i'm almost sure of this. if your MO is 2004 or lower, then you have the polished pewter painted lower trim so the color code for that is KY2. if your MO is 2005 or newer, then you have the platinum painted lower trim and the color code is K21.

so depending on what year your MO is, one of those two will be a match.
Gonzo
May I offer a suggestion.... don't paint it. It will never match, it will never be like factory. I've learned that over and over again over the years.

Nothing beats factory or lasts as long and remember NOTHING scratches as easily as Nissan paint. :p

I have a 2005 Platinum SE and the lower trim is the same as the body color, while all other body colors use the dark lower trim which appears to be Platinum as stated before.

that's exactly how i came to my conclusion. the 04 and lower ploshed pewter MO's were all one color and now the 05 and higher platinum murano's are one color. all nissan does is changes the major body color and leaves the bumper outlines the same.

I noticed later cars dont always have the area painted.

Anyway, you don't say model year. I have taken a screengrab from a pdf I have of the 03 Murano Service/Garage manual.

Not sure if its of help

andy- in canada, the SL muranos only have the flat black plastic finish while the SE's are painted the metalic color.

in the states, i'm not sure but i think the s and sl's have the rear bumper painte but not the front and the se's have both the front and rear painted. according to your screen shot, for mo's 04 and younger the paint code is KR2??? i dunno how it's different than the KY2 because the pewter Murano were monotone...

i'll check if this ha changed in the 05 service manual.

I paint cars for nissan at the port of entry and I know a little bit about this.
one thing the paint code for that part of the bumper is not on the sticker. also it isn't any of the body colors that came on any year murano. it may be close to some but it is different. I made my own forumla to match it and thats what any good bodyshop will do . if they cant make the color then they suck to be quite frank.
we use ppg paint and they don't offer a color for it. you run into that alot with underhood colors and some bumper accents. whatever you do don't get spraycans hah.
good luck

Do you think it is possible to purchase it somewhere?
Can you help? I am looking to a small touch up to cover up few scratches. I was hoping that Nissan offers a paint tube marker or regular touch up small bottles...
crashdump
well as far as touchup with a brush goes anytime you brush on metallics or pearls it will show up darker. thats just how basecoat is. if you don't spray it then clearcoat it the color won't match. but it would look better then foot long scratches. I can give you the formula I made for that color which is real close and you can go to a ppg auto refinish store and get a small amount like 1/4 pint mixed for maybe 20 bucks or less. they probably even have some touchup bottles that you can put some paint into. they also might be able to make you some single stage clearcoat to brush over it.
lemme know and I will get the formula monday.

I'd like that code. thanks a lot. I have a small scratch but a deep one. That is after some je*k parked behind me.
I was hoping to fill it in with the paint and remove the access with langka. I am not looking for a perfect match, i know it is not possible, but i just want something as close as possible to the original color. I have 2005 SL in silver color ( KY0 ), bumper is much darker, like platinum or so, but as you said -- it is not a close enough match..
Any directions you can provide would help a great deal.
Thanks!
crashdump
okay this is a custom formula I made long time ago to match the murano lower tone.
you have to go to a ppg paint store and have them mix it for you. probably cost about 25 bucks for a half pint.
I warn you now you can't fill much of a gouge with basecoat color. thats what putties and primer is for.

heres the formula
text on the left is the color tint
text on right is the amount by weight.

this makes a half pint but you can have them makes less.

deltron dbc basecoat

dmd 649- 41.9parts
dmd 1687- 91.8 parts
dmd 1683- 44.5 parts
dmd 614- 9.2 parts
dmd 1689- 62.1 parts

that color should be close
to get a bodyshop to repair the gouge and paint just the lower part shouldn't cost much..

gl whatever you do
