Just installed a Curt hitch (2" receiver one).
Piece of cake, no need to lower exhaust to do this (a little trick is needed, thats all).
For the harness, I went with the Curt harness. When it arrived, I noticed that after I install it, the connector that goes to the trailer would have to be freely hanging connector. It did not come with any cap to close the connector (to keep water out), did not come with any hardware to affix it to the hitch, for a nice finished look.
I need to know if there is a place I can buy the parts to complete this. The hardware to affix the connector to the hitch next to the receiver hole, and the weather cap to cover it. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Uhaul sells many connectors, wiring and caps. I bought an end connector with 3 leds that can be used to test the connector.
I would suggest that you leave the trailer wire inside the trunk area and run it under the tailgate when you need it. It looks much nicer and keeps the wiring clean and dry. |

| Sounds like a good plan, but I also wonder how the other members of this forum got their connectors neatly placed next to the receiver, and how I can get parts like that too. |

I just bought the Curt hitch and am planning on installing it soon. Can you tell me the trick you used that did not require you to drop the muffler? Thanks! |

From what I recall, there are only two easily accessible bolts holding the exhaust up. Definitely worth dropping it down to make the job easier. Maybe it is possible without dropping the exhaust, but probably not worth the risk of scratching the bumper/bending breaking the exhaust, etc.
Just use the MO's jack to support the exhaust (put it under the muffler) when you do drop it.
FWIW, I used the US version of the wiring harness, which simply plugs into the existing wiring for the MO. My understanding is that the Canadian version requires some splicing of the existing wires--not an ideal solution IMO. You'll have to improvise to attach the harness to the hitch, or you could just leave it in spare tire well if you don't need it all the time. |

Personally, I had no problems getting it off, but I did it slowly to ensure that I did not damage it. Putting back on was easy, and it no worst for the ware. |

| ...vs. a few minutes to drop the exhaust, no damage to exhaust tips, or to underside of bumper. I'm not too sure this is really worth doing, considering how simple it is to lower the exhaust. |

| Thanks for all the tips guys. It was really helpful. Anyways, I got my hitch installed without dropping the whole muffler. I knocked off the chrome tips using a block of wood and a hammer. After that, I was able to slide the hitch in pretty easily without scratching anything. I was able to bolt on 4 of the 5 bolts required. The last bolt on the passenger side could not go in strait because the hanger was in the way. I had to remove that 4 bolts to drop the hanger out of the way and the last one went in easily. All in all it took about 3 hours or so. The exhaust tips went back in without any problems and looks even better now that i was able to clean them well while they were off. I did all of the install without the aid of air tools. I am sure it would be much faster if you use them. |
