Chirping noise - Click HERE for Original Thread
Nicci831
Okay guys, I don't mean to sound like I am finding all these problems with my MO, but tonight, we went to get some food and when I put the car in park to wait for the food, I heard 2 chirps, we thought it was the window of the drive up, but I put it into park and heard it again, as we drove away, AGAIN! Seems to happen when I stop and go again at low mph, and when I put my car in drive from park and from park to drive.....is this normal? Seems to be coming from outside of the car can't really tell where, its definatly nothing inside because I did hang my head out the window while driving slow and heard it.
Thanks for you help!

Nicci831-

No, it is not normal for your MO to "chirp" when shifting in and out of PARK. The good news is that it appears the noise is repeatable. That will make it easy for a mechanic to troubleshoot.

Yup, didn't think it was normal, I will call the dealership to make an apt. to get it looked at. Thanks again for all your help!

Did you check fot a mouse or cat stuck under the hood? :2:

But seriously, that does not sound as something normal. Better have the dealer check it for you.

haha It was late and dark and I thought it was a bird, like I said it happens when I take the car out of park and into drive, and drive away, it happens sometimes. Then when I put the car from drive into park I hear it CHIRP CHIRP - Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Eric L.
The odd thing is that I cannot draw any relationship between shifting the gears into and out of park, and starting from a dead stop, because different parts of the car are moving in each case. Does anyone have any clues as to what *common* part is moving in each case?

If I had to guess, I'd say its an engine mount. The engine shifts a little bit when you change gears, and it also shifts when you rev the engine on acceleration.
Nicci831
I payed more attention to the noise when I drove home for lunch because its a 25mph and I can here it better. It happens when I am stopping, around 2-5mph, and after I stop and go again, right about the same mph. Also when I put the car in park....I made a apt for my sqeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeky brakes and also for the Chirp, I swear I am driving down in the street with tons of animal noises!! haha I will let you know what they find out after friday =)
Nicci831
Ok so I went to the dealer today and got there at 9:30am, it took them until 1:30 to figure out what was making the hissing noise, they said it was my exhaust pipe so they had to order it....the chirp was heard on the other 2 muranos I drove to see if they had the noise, the sales rep said it was the fule pump and is normal on all 3.7l engines like the MO and I believe he said Ultima, if you rev the gas in park, and let it fall normally, you can hear a chirp noise....anyhow I was there till about 3:30pm today =(
I got a free tank of gas from my sales rep though =)

I am glad your MO is back.

However, your sales rep is talking through his arse. The noise you are hearing is most definitely not the fuel pump. The fuel pump is buried in the fuel tank. It would be very hard to hear it. It is possible you were hearing the electric motor mount, which transitions from hard to soft at around 950 RPM.

He said that is what he thought it was...the fule pump, but I am sure you are correct, My boyfriend said it sounds electronic....do you all hear it on yours? Its quite annoying =(
Eric L.
If its fuel related, my bet is on a bad fuel pressure regulator, which is under the hood (unlike the fuel pump). The previous mention of the electronically controlled motor mount is also a reasonable suspect.

I think i know what your talking about..i have a 2007 murano and i can hear it something when im stopped or just about starting to move...i believe it to be just a part of the suspension or engine. i'm not worried about it, it seems normal to me

I don't know about that, Nicci........ mine is exactly the same as yours and I don't hear any chirping, except for those birds I keep running over......... hahahaha

No, but seriously - you can hear it with the windows closed?

If they're THAT noticeable - seems odd to me.

its not when the window is up and music is playing but I notice it when my music is down and windows down, I was really scared to think there might be something wrong with the car but the other new mo had the same exact noise!
Eric L.
I guess its time to take it to the dealer if the odd sound makes you feel unsafe. We can only offer guesses and suggestions over here, but a mechanic can determine for sure. Make sure you drive the vehicle with the Nissan technician sitting in the passenger seat, to demonstrate the noise.

DO NOT drop the MO off, and let them find the problem on their own - you will almost certainly waste a day and get a "could not reproduce" on your service order.
Nicci831
I did take to the dealership and they found the noise (hissing) to be my exhaust pipe which they ordered the part and I am waiting for it to come in. As for the other chirp noise I drove another new mo and it made the same noise so its a normal thing....

Damn, after all this time, now I find out that I do not have a normal MO. Mine doesn't chirp. It must be a California thing. :D

A good way to hear it is roll the windows down, and rev the engine, when it falls to around 1k you will here a chirp ever so faintly but you will hear it, maybe its just one the 07? Gosh I don't know I am going out of my mind though!!! haha

Nicci-

Ahh, that would be the electric motor mounts. They turn on (hard) and off (soft) at around 950 RPM.

No, you are crazy, but that is beside the point! :D

You're being overly sensitive like I was when I first got it. You'll get over it soon.

The exhaust noise, however, is a whole different thing, so you should be happy it's getting looked at. ;)

I have just purchased a 05 MO with 100 000 km and get the same noise. It sounds like and electric motor. At first i tought it was the mirrors that where moving when i slowed down or parked.

Is this normal because it is pretty loud and annoying, as anyone ever had this checked by a dealer.

Thanks
