Just put it into D and forget it.
S andL you can workout later....and it will not take you long! :D |

The following is from the Owner's Manual.

The only times that I use S is when I'm about ready to pass someone. Gives a little bit better response to really get up to speed quickly.
Other than that, D is really sufficient for all your driving needs.
Think about it this way:
Most conventional automatics have:
P, R, N, D, 2, 1
How often do you ever use 2 or 1? You can think of S and L similarly (they're different with the CVT, obviously, but the idea is similar) |

I am one of the few with a 03 SE before they had the gated shifter, so I only have D, Ds, and L like on an SL.
D: use it for all normal driving
Ds: use it for engine braking down a steep incline or for improved acceleration (I think its geared too low for engine braking, keeps revs around 3500-4000rpm when cruising, so I only use Ds occasionally because its really punchy)
L: never use it, but it keeps revs even higher, ~4500-5000rpm
There is no preset ratio for any of the D, Ds, or L, so theoretically you can use any of them at anytime, but D is the most relaxed one and fits 99.9% of my driving situations. |
