Ok guys, I had an alarm project on the bench that I fine tuned for a few weeks. The alarm is doubled with a remote starter and the installation went fine during the weekend. Everything works Ok but I was disapointed when I hit the road and began to hear a high pitch crackling noise through the speakers. It only does it when listening to the iPod through the OEM Nissan interface.
I tried isolating the engine ignition coil wire coming from the engine bay and it does not touch any other wire. I also tried moving the ignition key signal to another wire as this is the only place that it could interact with the radio unit. It did not help.
The weird thing is that the FM is perfect. Only the iPod does this and since it is a OEM harness, I am not sure where to install a noise suppressor if this is the only thing that will eliminate this irritating noise.
Any idea? TIA |

* UPDATE *
The crackling sound is not engine dependent. It also does it when listening to the iPod on ACC. WTF? TIA! |

Found it. It is the iPod itself that blew a gasket somewhere and it happened at the same time that I finished the alarm installation so I was puzzled. Hooking it to the home sound system let me verify that the crackling noise is coming from the iPod preamp.
Good thing that I took the extended warranty on this one. |
