how to convert 4 to 8 way powerseat? - Click HERE for Original Thread
ben805
I read somewhere that we can get some rocker switch to convert the 4 way powerseat to 8 way, is it still hold true for 2006 S model? If so, please show me how or link me to the post with instruction or pictures, what part do i need and where to get the part? use the search function but haven't gotten any result yet.

Did you read that here? If so, then do a search.

I think k_garten discussed it in one of the following topics:

S model Fog upgrade or S model regrets or something like that with those combination of words. Do a couple of searches and you will eventually find it.

no luck in finding any detail on how and where to install the switches......

Here is the link to the discussion on page 2. I think he installed the switch on the side of the seat.

Would were a prince to search that out for him. Kudos. I am getting a Nissan Altma Hybrid and they don't make them with a powered passenger seat so i will be removing the black leather seat coverings and buying a power seat from a junk yard that will fit (the big problem) and then putting the covering on it. I hope that there is some nissan that has a powered passanger seat or that the Mo's will fit in the car and that the seat portion is the same betweenthe altma and the (whatever other nissan has a passenger power seat)

How about a Maxima passenger seat?

I need to get out a ruler a camera and a friendly dealer. Thanks! :)

I am looking into doing this as well. I looked at the my murano 4-way seat switch that only moves the seat back and forth, and it looks like the only thing keeping the switch from controlling the up and down are some plastic rails built into the switch. I want to remove my seat to get a closer look. If I can just break the plastic rails on the switch to allow the up and down seat adjustment I will do that and report back. I don't know if the wiring is connected to the switch or if the switch is actually capable of controlling the up and down, if not I will buy the switch from nissan for $85. There is only 1 part number so I think all the switchs are the same, some just have the rails to prevent some of the function. The plastic cover bezel is universal so it allows controling the up and down its just the switch itself which is preventing the function. As for the lumber switch that would need to be purchased and a hole drilled into the bezel and then wired in. I think the factory lumber switch will just plug into the harness and it costs $50. But again until I try I dont know. If anyone has info on this it would help me alot.

Please post back with pics too... I'm very interested in this mod.

Well I took my seat apart this weekend. The motors do exist and are just waiting to be wired in. These motors are for raising the seat up and down. The lumbar motor I could not see because that is accessed from the back of the seat if I can get it open. I personally would like to get the stock switch and wire it from there. Or get the harness if I can find it cheap enough. This is very doable project. I will report back when I decide on a game plan.
Livin
Definitely let us know what you find out about getting the stock switch (cost , availability, etc)... I have a feeling if we can get them for a decent $ many will want them.

You mentioned before the the existing switch might work by removing a few bars... did you look at that yet?
brikhaus
Yes I looked at the switch, there is no way to modify it. After removing the switch I saw that it is only capable of moving back and forth not up and down. The wires are not there either for connecting to the other harness. So this switch is only on the "S" model. Its interesting that they leave the seat motors intacted so they dont have to make 2 different seats but they use different switches. I imagine the motors cost much more than the switch, I guess thats probably why they did what they did, but seems like backward thinking in a way. I have not seen this part in the service manual so I think the only switch you can buy is the multi switch, I could be wrong. The switch I saw was about $50. Kinda pricey but much cleaner install than the rocker switches mentioned earlier. If I can find one in a junk yard I am sure it would be $5.
Livin
if you find a good deal on some switches let me know, I'm in for one!

1. Still don't see any wiring details.
2. Are all the motors in the power passenger seat too. Can it be converted this way? Has anyone looked?

I was going to ask the same thing.
ben805
I checked my passenger side, there is a motor looking thing under the seat, not sure if it's for moving the seat up and down, it has a few harnesses under the seat but the seat appear to be on different type of rail, so not sure how is it going to work. I have an 06 S trim.

1. Wiring details are pretty straight forward, I believe there are 3 wires for each motor coming out of the switch. The 2 motors are just under the seat. If you take the seat out of the car or turn it over the motors are right there. Sorry I cant be more specific but if you take the seat out I am sure you could figure out the wiring pretty easily.

2. My "S" has a manual passengers seat so I am pretty sure there are no motors in that, it uses totally different mechanisms to work. I have not looked so I could be wrong but I highly doubt it.

I might have to wait on this mod since I have been spending alot on my Mo lately. Smartly spending, but still faster than I should, so it might be a bit before I take this on. If someone else does I would love to see their progress.
GripperDon
I am hoping the seat adjusting mechanism is a seperate module and that I can remove it and buy an electric 6 way to put in. If not then I guess I have to buy the whole seat and remove and transfer the upholstery fom the current set to a new one. Anyone got any thoughts.?
Livin
Anyone done this conversion?
k_garten
The motors are already there waiting for electricity. If you can find a factory harness cheap do that. I think dealer was >$300 a few years ago when I did the mod. These switches are ~$8 each. The front controls the front of the seat the other the back of the seat. They are DPDT type switches and the color is almost a match (you would never notice them). They mount where the pedal position switch would normally go. Type (on)-off-(on) Momentary. Philmore's Model 30-695

I will try to find the schematics that I created. Seat motors are 12v and change direction when power is switched.

here's a picture.
Livin
Cannot wait to see the schematics! I'm going to be all over this one!
k_garten
Here's the schematics for the harness you will have to build. For the motor plug use insulated female blade plugs.

Nice job K! Once again, going the extra effort to help others. I wish I had a power passenger seat just to try this.
