I just notice a grinding noice

metal on metal
when i roll 20-40km or 40-20km

0-20, 40 and more, nothing !!

its look like the splash protector disk but its not him

we look for the CV joint and when i completly turn my wheel and make a 360degree turn on left or right, the CV joint dosent make a "crack" sound ?

so, can you help an owner by giving me some advice ?

I hope its not the transfer case making metal to metal sound..

i just change the lower table and the wheel hub bearing in february

i cant believe its the bearing again because the sound is not the same like the first time i change it

maybe its the shock ? transfer case ? cv joint ? wheel bearing ?

or maybe its the caliper ??

someone here told a story last month i think with the same problem and told us the caliper was the trouble because the pad touch the disk at a bad place??

HELP

GripperDon
Other may I can't. So I suggest you go to dealer. :(
elerico
20-40MPH !

me its 20-40kmh..

so 12.5mph to 25mph

never in reverse...

not offen ..

its look like the protective metal on the downpipe..

the sound is coming in front of the vehicule..

not the side......

what do you think
elerico
if i go slowly.. i NEVER see the sound !

if i go a little bit hard on gaz... i will notice the sound..

but slowly.. never...

i can hear the sound when the car pop up a little bit on acceleration...when the front is higher.... you know when you accelerate.. the front of the vehicule is higher than the back...

:)
elerico
what do you want to tell me by a smile ???
elerico
if its the transfer case the problem..

why i cant hear the sound in reverse !!!!!!
Eric L.
Like Grip said, there is not enough information for someone here to diagnose your problem. We want to help, but intermittent issues like these are better suited for actual mechanics.
elerico
if i record the sound..

can you give me an idea..

because if it will be the xcase.. i will notice the sound in reverse too !!!
elerico
maybe a motor mount ?
or a top shock..

grr I hate this

I can give you a guess, but since neither I nor anyone else here is a Nissan mechanic, I'm not sure what our opinions are worth.

From what I gather, the transfer case will turn backwards in reverse (since the output is from the transmission which has already reversed the direction), so you cannot rule out the noise as not coming from the transfer case since we know things going one way don't always do the same thing the other way.

Why don't you take the vehicle to a mechanic?
elerico
i will do this tomorrom..
elerico
the nearest nissan dealer is at 2h00 !!

one last question

if i put the mo on a lift in the air..

if its the xcase... the xcase will make a sound in the air with no load at the wheel ??

or only on the ground....

Unless you put the vehicle in drive or reverse, the transfer case will not spin. Of course, its a terrible idea to have the wheels spinning with no load, and I doubt any mechanic would be willing to perform that dangerous stunt.

grr...

im 2h from the nearest nissan dealer..

so im trying to have more idea to test on a mechanic arround here..

i know they CANT spin the wheel in the air..

but how they can tell the trouble...

They can use a mechanics probe or "stethoscope" to localize where the noise is coming from, and if need be, even put it on a rolling dynometer.

no dyno in my region

They can also tape the probe to certain parts and listen for the noise on a test drive.
elerico
just get from nissan dealer..

the sound was the cooler in front of the mo touching the metal near the CVT and XCase and making that sound !!
Eric L.
Hmm I wonder which cooler. It can't be the radiator or tranny fluid cooler tank below that. Maybe one of the many heat exchangers located on the CVT?

could be the famous "scoop"...

Oooh you are probably correct. :6:
elerico
this is the "Scoop"

This might be too easy, but it happened to me. I was getting a grinding noise at the slower speeds, and I thought the worst: transfer case, bearings, etc. Jacked up the front end and found out that a few lug nuts were loose, causing the front wheel to wobble and grind. Tightened them, and problem fixed.:)
