| I have a 2003 Murano with around 35k miles on it, i have put a post up before but the problem seems to get worse , there is this rattling/clicking noise comming from what it seems to be the passenger side at low rpm's but when i hit the gas and the car goes up in the higher rpm's the noise just goes away, the same in neutral the car wont make any noise in neutral just in drive at exactly 1200 rpm. I though it was something rattling but I can find any thing, so i checked the belts and this is what I found below the belt is in bad shape, but at 35k miles is the belt suppose to be in that shape??? also i dont think the noise can be comming from that, or maybe it is, please give me some input thanks. -Arvin |

Nice pics! Very clear and defined.
According to Gates, one of the largest manufacturer of automotive belts, if more than three cracks per inch are evident on the grooved underside of the belt, more than 80% of its service life is gone, and replacement should be considered. Gates' engineers recommend inspection at 60,000 miles and changing serpentine belts every four years, regardless of appearance. Since you are at the 4-year mark I would replace both belts.
The worn belts would not be the making the noise you described. My guess is a loose heat shield, pipe, bracket, etc, that is excited by the vibrations at the 1,200 rpm point.
Good luck finding it.

The following is from the Service Manual. It is for the alternator/AC belt.

As usual you supply great info, the next question is has anyone replaced these belts yourself or have you always taken it to a garage to do like me.
Gone are the days when Shell use to put out a booklet whereby if your fan belt broke on the road you could use a set of pantie hose to make a temporary fan belt to get you to a service station. |

Arvin,
Have you solve your clicking/rattling noise issue at low rpm? Our 2003 family Murano just started having this same issue and the dealer showed me under the car and checked the heat shields after they couldn't diagnose the problem.
Does your rattling happen when the car is cold started?
Another related issue, while they have the car on the lift, they showed me the 2 drive belts and it was also cranking? How much did you pay to service those? |

| Check the idle pulley bracket. Mine was broken and was making a noise at low rpm. There is a previous post for this issue. |
