hey people
I'm new here and this is my first post. I found this forum while searching for info on adding factory navigation to a non nav Murano. I've read tons of post saying it can't be done at all and some say it can for alot of money etc etc. from what I have read some Murano's are missing wires in the harness that are needed and I think thats only an issue with pre 05 Murano's. I work at a vehicle processor on the east coast and we bring in the murano and 350z off the boats and get em ready for the dealers. I have access to alot of dealer things like parts listing programs and service manuals etc etc. I do paint and body work there and know allot of useless things. anyways I have a 2005 sl I bought as a salvage car and fixed it. it had all the options except tpms and navigation or sat.
from what I can see to put navi in it I need the color screen , the audio video controller, the navigation controller, antennae and I think thats it possibly.
I thought after reading an old post that my harness was wrong.
when I pulled up the list of harnesses for an 05 it lists about 7 or so. all of them worked with navi except one. it was for a base model with the vdc. all the other harness were for different combinations of bose radio, intellikey, seat memory, wood grain and navigation. seeing how my mo has all that stuff except wood grain I think it has the harness that works with navigation. I haven't pulled stuff out to look for the connectors yet.
but it looks like I can get it working for under a grand. I get parts for dealer cost but I found stuff cheaper on ebay.
I got a color screen cheap and all I need is the audio video controller which I can get for 440$ new OEM and the navigation controller which new is 1800 my cost but I found it at some junk yards for 600 and saw one go on ebay for 500 once.
so I guess once I get all the stuff I will make an attempt. I'm looking for the audio video controller first and I have the color screen already. don't know if that stuff will work without the navi installed or not. I'm thinking maybe with an 06,07 a/v controller it might. if anyone has any extra input on this matter I would appreciate it.
PS. if anyone ever needs any info about parts and or prices or anything on muranos or other nissans pm me. I can find out most anything from the software I use at work.
also we are getting a new model this fall its a smaller version of the murano. called the rouge or something.
thanks in advance |

Welcome!
When my MO was new I was considering adding Navigation but then the cost was too high and now the MO is too old!
But I would love to see pictures of your install.... |

I thought someone did it a couple of years ago.
With the price of a refurb Magellan 3000T under $200 it is hardly worth the effort. |

two reasons I want to.
1) I want a color screen instead of the orange.
2)I want an OEM look and not crap drilled or taped or screwed to my dash or anywhere else.
I can see spending a grand to do it. but not much more then that. also it will increase the resale of the car somewhat.. |

Crash-
That is a major undertaking, and I wish you the best of luck, but there is no way you are going to pull it off for anything less than two grand.

display and 06 bose radio was 600. I already had a bose but it didn't do mp3..
audio video controller is $414 new dealer cost
dvd player navi controller is $675-used right now but I can get it cheaper..
gps antennae is around 38 bucks.
thats under two grand.
the av controller and dvd player I'm looking to get cheaper though.
well see.
before I get any of that I need to see if I have those wires in the console for the dvd player. and see where the av controller goes if theres bundled wires there already. should be from what I see when I do parts lookup for the main harness. the cars that have leather, intellikey, bose, seat memory all support navi.
6 out of 7 do and the one that doesn't is for cars with just vdc.
I think I will look tomorrow.
=p
if there is I think I'm golden.
if I do make it work ill post pics and such
night folks |

I accomplished both and anyone that sits in the car thinks it is all OEM. |

Thanks. I think I might have about one weekend into it (more if you count the beer breaks) and about $1,000 in parts and software. It could be done for half $$ if you really push it! |

crashdump,
Are you sure you have the 06 Navi screen or just the 06 color? Either way I would try install without the navi controller to see what works and what doesn't.
It may save you added cost and heartache at the end.
I'm rooting for you - I hope you do it.

Just my 2 cents. |

theres only two screens nissan uses in the mo's
the orange color screen and the one that is used for 03-07 navi and 06-07 everything. I have looked at the parts list screen at work so many times I got it memorized.
I have the same software the dealers use to order parts. also the confidential parts prices.
weeee.
the color screen I have already I just need to get the audio video controller to make it work. what im not sure about is if the 05 murano needs the navi controller hooked up for the display to work. I know the 06 and 07 don't as they all have color screens now but not all have navigation.
I'm betting I could use a audio controller from a 06 if I just want the screen and not the navi..
oh I did a quick look for wires in the console to hook up the navi controller and I didn't see any. what I don't know is if the controller comes with wires if you order one or if its part of the main harness..
if its part of the harness and I don't have the wires in the harness in my sl then thats a project killer right there.
the harness is 700 something at dealer cost and a full day to install. that just would drive the price too high for me. |

I have to disappoint you, but there is no easy and cheap way of installing OEM NAV system. I opted for after market as I travel and need "mobile" solution. However, if you analyze what Mr. Z did you will get a good picture of the task.
Good luck |

oh I'm fully aware it isn't cheap. if I paid dealer cost for the parts it would be around 6-7 grand. I have no idea why nissan did it like that. you think they would like to make money selling accessories..
but I can do it for 2 grand I think with used stuff and my dealer price on the stuff I cant get anywhere else.
but I may consider just switching to the color screen and adding a aftermarket nav system like the other guy did. drop the radio screen down lower..
looks nice like that. |

| Not only might be simpler and look good but with the computer you can do a lot more things. |

yeap. for now I'll just get the color screen working. then decide what to do about nav later.
last night I found one more thing I had overlooked. the top of the radio faceplate has different controls. thats another 250 or so.
I'm sure the wiring harness is completely different for a nav car now. and I don't want to install a whole harness and replace all those other parts. be easier to buy a nav thats about the right size and make a custom faceplate for it and harmount it where the radio display is and drop the radio display down lower. I think thats what I will do later.. |
