New owner (3 weeks; 500 miles): SL W/ Touring Pkg, Intelligent key.

The manual (I actually READ it !!) suggests that I can leave the Heat/AC control on 'Auto" full time. I leave it on Dual to keep the wife happy. However, it seems that Auto also selects the mode where all air is directed throught the upper vents. Thus, when intiially cooling the car on a hot day (we hit 90 yesterday) it selects the highest fan speed and the air is so danged loud, you can't hear yourself think. It also puts the air intake in recirculation mode. Sooooo, I select the mode that directs the air to both the upper and lower vents. This turns the AUTO mode off.

I'm wondering why can't I have (1) Auto mode (2) Upper and lower air delivery and (3) Outside air all at the same time. Anybody else have this condition?

Also, when I press theTRIP button, it SOMETIMES first dispalys the maintenance screen. Pressing TRIP again dispalys the economy screen. Finally, a third press of TRIP gets to the Trip screen. Can anybody explain this?

Prior to the Murano, we drove a Mustang and a 350Z. My first reaction is that it is BIG, REALLY BIG. But we're getting used to that. (We've also had a 37' motorhome so we can relate to "big")

CVT is really smoooooth but I'm missing downshifting the 6 speed of the "Z". Makes me feel lazy.

Reading the translation to English in the manual is a hoot.

Some of the controls are quite redundant and seem overdesigned just to add "glitz". Example; I believe there are three ways to reset the trip counter and multiple ways to select the response to the door lock/uunlock. Makes it overly complex.

But, so far, I love the car.:D

Congrats on your new MO!

Let's see if I can answer some of your questions...

HVAC- That is typical of all MOs and many other cars. During initial start-up on a hot day the HVAC system will revert to recirculation mode and high-speed fan to cool the interior as quickly as it can. You can always override the system, but I found AUTO to be satisfactory for 99% of all situations.

BIG: Size is relative. Yes, the MO is bigger than the 'stang and the "Z", but is puny compared to your motorhome. The MO is a nice compromise.

CVT Smoothness: Yeah, ain't that great? I absolutely fell in love with the CVT. You cannot beat it for smoothness, unless the car was powered by a direct-coupled turbine.

English as a second language: The Japanese to English translations are a hoot to read. The Service Manual is filled with translation errors. I can understand the first-year Owners Manual having a few errors, but each year it should get progressively better. You would figure they would correct the errors at each printing. Obviously that is not happening.

Enjoy the ride. :roadtrip:

Have you used Ds(second/sport) for a down shifting alternative. Works very well. Helps on acceleration too.

Our 2007 SL is our first Nissan and our first SUV. My DW and I are loving it too! Good luck with yours.
